Riis Admits to Doping During His Tour Win.
Riis was the 1996 Tour de France winner. He just admitted to using EPO during the years he rode the TdF, as well as took cortisone and human growth hormone.
So looking at the last 20 year history of the Tour:
Greg LeMond (US) Believes Armstrong Doped
Stephen Roche (Ireland)
Pedro Delgado (Spain)
Greg LeMond (US) Believes Armstrong Doped
Greg LeMond (US) Believes Armstrong Doped
Miguel Indurain (Spain)
Miguel Indurain (Spain)
Miguel Indurain (Spain)
Miguel Indurain (Spain)
Miguel Indurain (Spain)
Bjarne Riis (Denmark) Just admitted to doping
Jan Ullrich (Germany) Retired amid doping scandel.
Marco Pantani (Italy) Caught doping and died of overdose
Lance Armstrong (US) Accused of doping
Lance Armstrong (US) Accused of doping
Lance Armstrong (US) Accused of doping
Lance Armstrong (US) Accused of doping
Lance Armstrong (US) Accused of doping
Lance Armstrong (US) Accused of doping
Lance Armstrong (US) Accused of doping
Floyd Landis (US) Caught doping
So of the last 9 winners, 4 have doped, 1 is accused, 1 is very vocal in blaming others of doping (hmmm), and the other 3 are very silent on the matter.
Clearly the sport needs big changes.
