Unknown location, Earth

The RRTS (Rapid Response Tactical Squad) is an elite unit of the best trained soldiers in the world. Their training facility is state of the art and extremely top secret. The goal of the RRTS is to provide emergency assistance with no turn around time. They are faster to assemble than a full military contingent and more highly skilled than a regular soldier.

Kaylee lifted the blindfold as she took her first few steps on the compound. She had been blindfolded so she wouldn’t learn the location of what was now going to be her home. The van she’d been brought in left, leaving her alone as she began to slowly walk further onto the compound. She reached the first door to the building and placed her hand on the grip. Suddenly red lasers appeared, from what she could tell they were scanning her. A monitor beside the door confirmed her thoughts as it went through the particulars of her body and dna. Eventually the screen turned green and the door opened.

“Welcome Private Kaylee Linden. Enjoy your stay.” A robotic voice greeted her, causing her to jump a little. She entered the building warily, the moment she stepped through the door however it shut loudly behind her. She was starting to wonder if this was the golden opportunity she was looking for.

Nevertheless she continued on until she found a lounge, several people were sitting around the room and all of them looked somewhat displeased.

“Attention!” A voice yelled from behind her. She near jumped as she turned around to face the man behind her.

“Alright soldiers, enough stewing about your time off. You didn’t come here to relax, so suck it up and just think of how good time off will be once this next mission on Mars is over. You’ve all been briefed but you haven’t met your newest teammate. This is Private Linden, she’ll be doing the downloads and bypassing the facilities doors and security systems. Try not to scare her off like the last one.” The man then chuckled and gave her a pat on the shoulder before turning and heading out the door.

Kaylee felt nervousness come over her. They were going to Mars? She looked over the group, at a loss for words.

“Hi.” She greeted shyly.

Deadeye smiled at the new kid, and scratched a patch of skin under his eyepatch.

'Well would you look at this guys, our new Team-mate is a girl,' He laughed, 'Though to be honest she looks like she's got more balls that the last guy who joined the team.'

He smiled, and offered the girl a grin which said No Offense.

He offered out his hand, 'Name's Matt Crowburg, but you can call me Deadeye.'

"Call me Keys. Everyone else does." She responded to the man in addition to a nod. She was still processing everything and getting her thoughts straight was hard. First thing was first though.

"We're going to Mars? What for?" She queried, wondering why in the entire trip there she was briefed about nothing as she sat blindfolded. Maybe that's what it was like to be a soldier, walking blindly into something. All she knew is what the man had just said. It didn't sound too hard, downloading was not only routine but second nature by now for her, bypassing doors and security would be dependent on the complexity of the security system.

Edward "Wild Man" Whittaker

Edward Whittaker had never been one to follow the crowd. He was always the risk-taker, always the one finding himself in trouble. He knew that this mission would be no different. They were going to Mars. And for what? To rescue some scientists who had probably tripped over the communications beacon or spilled their coffee on the terminal? He scoffed at the absurdity of it all.

As he sat in the lounge, waiting for the last of the team to arrive and to be given the specifics of their mission, he passed the time by cleaning the polarization chamber and checking the circuitry on his plasma rifle. He barely looked up from behind his wraparound sunglasses as the new girl entered the room. He didn’t even dignify the call for attention, but merely stopped his diagnostic and leaned back in his chair.

She and Deadeye exchanged introductions, and he nodded to her as she glanced around the room. He figured she might come over and try to introduce herself, but he knew that it was better to remain distance from the new fish. They never seemed to learn fast enough and seemed to either transfer out or die before they became really useful. He didn’t even stand to introduce himself, but instead turned back to the task at hand. He wanted to make sure nothing went wrong this time.

Sergeant Mihaili lounged quietly in the briefing room along with her team, her equiment resting on the floor by her booted feet. Her eyes watched the door as she waited for their guest to make her appearance. Mihiali wasn't opposed to escort duty; sha had enough experience of the subject and besides; it was an order. And as long as the UAC paid her salary, their word was her law, for better or worse.

The door opened and private Linden stepped in, her demeanor suprisingly timid. So, Mihaili thought, it's babysitting then? Her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden call of the officer following Linden, and Mihaili snapped to attention, hand behind her straightened back. She listened to the mostly redundant speech they were treated to before relaxing to adress the newcomer.

She stepped up and said: "That's ´Hi, sir,´ from now on." She wasn't a die hard follower of military disciplinary doctrines, but you had to set your foot down for the new ones, make sure they knew were they stood in the pecking order. She cut into Crowberg's and the girl's little introduction: "From now on Linden," she didn't use handle ID's, much to chagrin of other RRTS operatives. "You'll be part of this team of special task soldiers. I don't expect you to chew nails and fire machineguns from the hip, but I do expect you to do as you're told and to stay alert. If you can handle that, there won't be any problems."

She looked around at the whole team, seizing them up. They weren't anxious, and that was to be expected; this wouldn't be their first mission in the employ of the UAC. "Crowberg," she said, turning to the one-eyed soldier. "The professor here will be your responsibility. Keep close to her at all times." To Linded she added: "I wan't you to download the schematics of this base we're headed for, if you haven't already. We're not in the habit of stumbling blindly into a possibly hostile zone."

Stepping back, she placed herself to the side of the others and faced them. "Alright people," she said, folding her arms across her chest. "I trust you all know the deal, but just in case I'll go through it again: Two weeks ago we lost contact with the Olduvai research and mining facility on Mars, save for a single distress beacon. Now the company wants to know what exactly the situation is and they've choosen us for the challenge. Our objective is to infiltrate and secure the base, as well as aid private Linden here in obtaining any relevant data from the computer network." She paused, placing her hands on her hips, her face dark. "I shit you not, gentlemen: This station has a history to it and I'm expecting to encounter obstacles of one type or another. Stay sharp." She knew little of what had happened in the past up on Olduvai, but she knew trouble when she saw it.

"By the way," she said to Linden. "Name's Mihaili."

Deadeye smiled and snapped a nod in responce to the Sarge's order.

'Okay, folks you heard the Sarge, lets prep up People!'

He turned to Linden, 'Okay, it would seem that I get to be daddy dearest today, so listen up, I have only 3 rules...a) Don't die... b) If i say duck, you damn well better drop to the floor.... c) Don't start cracking jokes....that's my job.'

He grinned, before continuing, 'Oh yeah, see the guy over there? Thats Wild Man, i'd try and avoid him as much as possible if i were you...he bites...anyway, you heard from sarge where we're going, so if i was you, i'd get those schematics yesterday.'

He turned and made his way to a locker, 'Oh yeah welcome to RRTS, the chances of you living past 30 just dropped to Zero.'

“Sir, yes sir.” Kaylee gave her response respectfully stiffening her stance and saluting. She had spent much of her free time researching military protocol and had prepared herself as much as she could.

”The professor here will be your responsibility. Keep close to her at all times." To Linded she added: "I wan't you to download the schematics of this base we're headed for, if you haven't already. “Sir.” She nodded a greeting in response. The group looked tough, she felt she would need to prove herself to them before gaining any kind of acceptance. This mission would be her chance to do just that.

Kaylee nodded to Dead-eye, wanting to mention to him that she might bite back but recalled the no cracking jokes rule and thought better of it. Then with the grace of an expert gunslinger, she drew her laptop from her bag and had it up and running within seconds. Kaylee searched the databanks for the Olduvai facility, it took some digging but she was able to quickly find the full schematics for every inch of the facility. Soon the download was all but complete; she smirked at the ease of which the computer she built herself operated.

“I’ve downloaded the map. Sir. As well I’ve used satellite feeds to determine the status of the facility. It’s mostly operational which means the security system should still be in place. Though from what I can tell the facility is a bit dated. I don’t think it will cause much trouble sir.” She presented the information to the Sergeant, her eye following Dead-eye as he moved towards a locker.

'Oh yeah welcome to RRTS, the chances of you living past 30 just dropped to Zero.'

“Thanks. I’d rather worry about living past today before I worry about 30 though.” She replied to him as she looked the Sergeant over. It was somewhat of a relief that their leader was a woman, though that didn’t stop Dead-eye from commenting on their new recruit being one. This team didn’t seem to be much of one. Loose cannons and renegades on the surface but she couldn’t discount where they were which meant they were the best of the best as she would surely learn over the next hours and hopefully days.
