Three recent headlines Google News turned up:

12 Year Girl youngest winner in history of Long Island Buefish Tournament" (from about thtree months ago)

"Spaceshipone wins X prize" (folowed shortly by the formationof Virgin Galactic Airline to sell space tourism flights on a derivitave of spaceshipone)

"Mars Rover gets unexpected energy boost" (apparently the solar energy panels on one of the Mars Rovers is suddenly more eficient that predicted)

There is some good news out there, but you pretty much have to dig it out of its hiding places.
