is there any way to find out if a story that was sent you if it is an original or docored i guess would be the correct word for it. ill try to explain briefly , my wife recieved a "story " from a friend on line and it is almost as if this guy rewrote it from anohter source . but thats the reason for my question
if it will help the file he sent was titled countryside.doc thank you for any help that anyone can give.

One way you can try to discover if the story is posted online somewhere is to find a few blocks of text in the story that don't contain character or place names ( often changed by people latching on to stories they didn't write )

Copy those blocks, and then do a google search with the blocks ( a sentence or two ) in quotes - designating an exact search. Try a couple of different blocks, and if you get results on any of them, the story is likely stolen. Click the link in google and see if the story matches up, or is almost identical. It won't find every online story site, but it will help you track down a lot of them.

Good way to hunt for work of your own that has been stolen as well.
