Folks--

I don't know if others have had the same thought but I'm going to commit it to print: Don't post a request for feedback and then take off.

Call me weird but I'm far more inclined to respond to the familiar. I'm not saying you have to be apart of the club(not big on cliques), but showing up and yucking it up with the crew makes you more than just another writer looking for feedback.

When I first got here, I read a lot and sent feedback through the option following stories. I also posted public feedback in this forum. Free publicity for the author, and it gave folks a peek at me the newbie. Then I asked for feedback. I figured by that time, folks might remember seeing my name and might do me a favor and read my dribble. :)

Wierder: If you send me feedback on something I've written, I'm going to make it my business to return the courtesy. I'm big on reciprocity. Might take me a little time, but I try to be sure to let folks know I appreciate what they've done by doing the same.

This site has a gazillion stories and poems. Can only read and respond to so much. Sorry, but I discriminate. Maybe the rest of you don't. First on my list are those who give it(feedback)as well as request it.

Peace,

daughter

infinite diversity in infinite combinations.

Our board needs participation and not just requests to read and comment. I realize someone viewing this forum casually would get the impression that all we do is talk about poetry and stories, and they would be right. But the majority of those comments come from only a few voices. If you would like constructive observations, comments, critiques, try talking about someone else's work. Otherwise, do not post and run.

Get in line with KillerMuffin's Story thread, New Poem's thread, The New Number One, or start your own.

Remember infinite diversity in infinite combinations.

U.P.

forgive the preaching, I just like the sound of my own voice and I fear I've been watching too much Star Trek.

How many times

Are newbies going to complain and ask about feedback? Jump in the fray here. Toot somebody else's horn and heck you just might find out that somebody will do it for you.

Do new writers realize how many stories and poems are posted daily here?

I have commented to ten times more poems and stories than I have posted here. I comment to somebody daily. There is not a note about my work in my mailbox daily. I get requests for critiques at least twice a week. My pm box is not overflowing with praises about my work but requests for feedback.

And at some point, we're trying to do the same thing you are--write. Feedback takes time. Give some.

Peace,

daughter

I hate to say it, but I agree with daughter. If you are going to ask for feedback on your own work, please be kind enough to do the same.

I would go beyond that and specify that requests for editing help and/or feedback include a link to the story and the genre. I don't think it matters to KM or daughter what genre the story is, but as for me, I'm incredibly busy and rarely have time to read for enjoyment. When I do, I want to make sure I will have the opportunity to enjoy it.

Don't you hate when that happens

I know what you mean. Who wants to agree with someone they've fallen out with? LOL

Thanks for the nod. Wanna shake and move on?

Peace,

daughter

Not planning on posting and running here. And I appreciate the input from all the people who have been sending me feedback. I'm also sending feedback too. Though its kind of new to me, I'm actually using the questions from km's thread to kind of guide me. Not necessarily on that thread but on the stories I'm reading in general. Its a good idea for new writer's to implement that, for their own writings and the readings. Been helpful to me anyhow.

You haven't joined yet? When you're a member, you can access member edit options and turn off av's.

I post from the library sometimes, too. Most have privacy screens. Otherwise, you can turn off the pics.

If you have any questions about navigating check out the FAQ or ask some of the tech savvy here. Don't ask me. My kids operate the vcr for me. LOL

Peace,

daughter

Hmm. . . I'll have to check and see where you are on my list.

Well , I guess you are not getting a lump of coal this year, but you came real close, so don't push your luck sister.

;)

Hello

I didn't see an introduction thread, so I will say hello and make sure I comment before I start asking for feedback and help with my poetry and stories.

Great to be here:)
