If it had been a matter of fight or die, they probably could have, but they also would have gotten hurt. They had other options, and they chose them.

ETA: I can't help thinking, if this had been a man threatening two women with a knife and demanding they suck his cock, he would have been charged with a more serious crime than this woman was, and his bail would have been higher.

I suspect the cop had a very low opinion of all the people involved in this fracas, and it wouldn't have been much different if it had been a threatening man and two drunk women. Even so, I also believe he would have felt more protective of women than of men.

I hope you know, it is not the cops who decide what to charge, although they do have some input, and they have nothing to say about bail.
