Occasionally there are nasty, objectionable threads that pop up. up. There are presented generally for shock value. Ignore them. Don't honor them with a reply. If someone makes cruel comments, ignore them. Don't fuel the fire. They know exactly the reaction they will get.

They have the mindset of a stalker: Any response to their posts, no matter how derisive the response might be, is viewed is reinforcement for their own conduct. Leave 'em alone, and they'll ooze away to their land of loneliness.

I've just gotta laugh.

I've been following the aforementioned rape thread since day one. I haven't posted my lament for it's theme in any response for the same reason just pet created this thread. I'd really like to see that thread die, but it just won't...

At first, I actually didn't mind too much. The thread seemed to be turning into a place where people could tell their personal stories and share their thoughts with others who had gone through similar experiences. Getting things off their chests, if you will. Soon enough, though, it turned into a troll-hater's worst fear: a bad thread resurrected every time it reached page 2 by someone who wanted to let all of Lit know how much they hated the fact that the thread existed.

Hopefully, by each bump this thread gets up to page one, a few more people will read just pet's warning and fewer people will feed the troll. Let the thread die, people. It's lived long enough...
