Don't Date Him, Girl!

The ad banner on top of the site that goes to Manhaters.com kind of clues me in.

Huh, I wonder what kind of coverage a Bitch List-site would score with Entertainment Tonight.

This is actually a site: Don't Date Him, Girl

I'm just thinking... doesn't this sort of border on libel??????

My understanding is it's only liabel, if it isn't true. That is to say, if Dave of Shimogan was banging your girlfriend while he was dating you, telling the world he did so is not exactly flattering, but if true, it isn't liabel. Dave, may even feel you can't prove it, or that you are maliciously accusing him, but, if he was doing it, I doubt he will take a chance on that coming out in a civil trial.

If it's not true, he would still have to prove you were acting with malicious intent and that he is being harmed in some way by it. I have a hard time believeing a jury is going to come up with a reward for your hurting poor dave's babe magnet rating.

Conversely, I tend to believe if Dave contacted the site, disputed the claim and threatedned to file suit, that the site owners would remove him from the database.

Hadn't thought of that... it's probably true...

the whole concept is strange and twisted to me...

The terms of use make a point of using the phrase "alleged cheater" (CYA maneuver) ... and there is a place for the accused to tell his side of the story (to be included on the same page).

*shrug* What-EVAH!

Ok, I swear everything that bitch put in there about me is untrue, I can prove I was in a completely different country at the time. And when she says I was with her girlfriend, that wasn't me, it was her brother. And he will testify to that in court!

Honest!

On the next Jerry Springer :D

Nothing wrong with this idea unless it gets abused, and since nearly everything gets abused...

I just searched my state, just for fun...

there's a guy listed that one of my GF's dated that totally stalked her and then screwed her over...

wow... I was shocked...

As a woman who once told her ex-SO that he should be belled like a leper to warn other women, I've got to agree with Svenska.

How about tying cheaters up and tattooing "CHEATER" on their chest?

Not seeing a problem.

Lets wronged women vent.

Gives a location to check out that nice, but off guy you're worried about accepting a date from.

Gives assholes a tiny, insignificant location where they are revealed for what they are, which will never make up for the damage they do in real life.

Is a fucking website.

As Mr. I  Hitler is aptly demonstrating, the web is filled with some pretty fucked up websites. It's the natural extension of free-speech and an anarchy which allows it in extremis. How many sites demanding dead gays or jews, how many listing books "loyal followers" should burn, how many demeaning women or supporting misogynist organizations? Whatever, seriously. Besides, it's cute.

The only real problem I see with it is that I don't really think it's going to do much good. The women who were cheated on can vent...but I honestly doubt that many women who *don't* already suspect their men are cheaters will visit the site. And there-in lies the real problem. In theory, this site works best if--before the girl hops into bed and a relationship with a guy--she goes on this website to make sure he's worth it.

But most women (and men) chose to be blind in that first flush of love/lust. "He can't be a bad guy! He's wonderful!" So they won't even check up on him till they catch sight of several e-mails from other girls on his computer. By then, it's too late.

OR, worse, they WILL check up on him and say, "Well, he cheated with her, but he won't cheat with me. It'll be different with me!" Cynic that I am, I just don't think most people are smart enough to make good use of this website.

I'm wondering, of course, when the "Dude! Don't date her!" counter-website will appear for guys with cheating girlfriends. Only fair after all.

About twenty minutes after I register the domain name. ;)

And twenty minutes later, it will be flamed for being chauvinistic.

What? Cynic? Moi?

I see they are offering a book there on understanding men. That seems like a total waste of money. Men are extremely easy to understand. If he's dating a woman, he wants to fuck her. Men are pretty honest unless they want to get into a woman's pants. :D Then they will say whatever they think she wants to hear. Otherwise, they are truthful, except for lawyers and politicians.

They have Kobe Bryant listed. I find that slightly amusing.

"Amazon Women on the Moon"

In the 1987 movie "Amazon Women on the Moon" in the segement "Two I.D.'s", Steve Guttenberg stops by Rosanna Arquette's apartment to pick her up for their first date.

She asks him for two forms of identification, that she then runs through a card reader on her telephone. Out of her fax machine comes an entire profile of his dating history. As she reads through it, she gets madder and madder, and when she realizes he slept with a girl he met in a bar the month before, and never called her, she kicks him up.

I remember thinking, "I'm glad that doesn't exist." Not all relationships end with the two people thinking highly of the other.

Everytime I see this thread I read it as "Don't Hate Him, Girl!".

I don't know why, I know what it really says.

A better question might be 'what haven't I done?'

Though I've never broken up a band or burned down anyone's house. For the record. :cattail:
