“We don’t even know what’s coming at us. We know it’s possibly the biggest,” Trump said, seated behind a name-card reading “The President,” as seen in the video that may be viewed below on this page. “I’m not sure I’ve heard of a Category 5. I knew it existed and I’ve seen some Category 4s. You don’t even see them that much, but a Category 5 is something I don’t know I’ve heard the term other than I know it’s there.”

In fact, it was only about 11 months ago — on October 10, 2018, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — that Hurricane Michael slammed into Florida’s Gulf Coast with winds measured at 160 miles-per-hour, making the storm a Category 5 hurricane.

Hurricane Michael was the fourth Category 5 hurricane to hit the continental U.S., according to USA Today, but the first since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

But there have actually been three Category 5 hurricanes in the Atlantic since Trump’s own inauguration on less than three years ago — Michael and two others, both of which caused severe damage to U.S. territories in the Caribbean. Hurricane Irma struck almost exactly two years ago, in the first week of September 2017, and was the most powerful Atlantic hurricane on record when it swept through the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to Weather Underground, with 180 mph winds, making the storm a Category 5.

Just two weeks after Irma, Hurricane Maria devastated the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico. Listed as a Category 4 hurricane at the time it struck, meteorologists examiner data later found that winds in the hurricane had indeed reached Category 5 levels, according to The Miami Herald.

Trump in theory should have clear memories of Hurricane Maria, because he has been widely criticized for a slow and inadequate response to the crisis caused by the storm on the Puerto Rican island. Trump has engaged in a feud with political leaders in the self-governing territory ever since. As recently as four days ago, Trump again blasted Puerto Rican officials as “incompetent,” according to The Washington Post, even as Dorian threatened further destruction on the island.

If the Democratic Party symbol is a donkey and the Republican Party image is an elephant then how come USA has a republican ass as president? I guess you could say he is the elephant in the room though.

The follow up to the self-imposed ignorance 45 had shown off in the report in the OP, he had to double down with his stable genius brain and fire off a tweet later that claimed Alabama was among the states that were in high danger of being slammed by Dorian.

When the pros at the Birmingham National Weather Service office finally stopped laughing, they sent out a tweet pretty much bitch-slapping 45 for being so geographically challenged and reassuring the state that it had more to fear from a sudden eruption of volcanoes in Hawaii than anything from Dorian.

Con artist went golfing today, before attacking the head of the AFL-CIO. You know, the largest labor organization in the country. On Labor Day. But he claims to be updated every hour about a storm category he's never heard of.

So far, the con artist has gone to one of his failing properties 289 times since he was anointed by Putin, and 227 days spent golfing.

It's like the Dead Parrot sketch.

It's going to Alabama

No it isn't.

Yes it is.

No.

Look here, it shows it.

That's not the real map.

Yes it is.

You changed it.

Changed what?

That map.

What map?

Fox News Rejects Trump's Altered Dorian Map, Says Alabama 'Never Part of Official Forecast'
Newsweek.com | Thu Sep 05, 2019 02:50 UTC

"You can see somebody with a Sharpie or some other writing instruments added a little bit to the cone of uncertainty, which was not a part of the official forecast," White House reporter John Roberts said.

Apparently Donnie Dipstick pushing a doctored projections map is also just a hair bit illegal also.

Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.

(Dan) Rather was also troubled that Republicans would stay silent
on something as obviously wrong as the Alabama misadventure-

“I’m surprised, some days even shocked, of how few, how very,
very few Republicans would stand up and say, for example, on
the Alabama hurricane. Folks, come on — Mr. President, this
is ridiculous. Stop it,” he said. “There certainly has been a lack
of courage, and we talk about being optimistic for the future.
We’re going to need all the courage we can muster.”

A Sharpie! a Sharpie! my kingdom for a Sharpie!

Happily, at least these enabling cowards are retiring in droves. Since they won't do their jobs that's just fine.

Annotating a map or chart isn't really a big deal. People do it all the time to emphasize a point. That alone isn't outside the law being quoted.

But this moron is so hell bent on making his position out to to be the right one that it really does seem like he's determined to alter the official forecasts.

It's to the point that I'd like to see some state AG file the charge. It wouldn't go anywhere, but it sure would cause an orange splatter in the Oval Office.

NOAA Proves it has become politicized rather than factual:

NOAA disavows National Weather Service tweet that refuted Trump's claim Dorian was headed toward Alabama
CNN | Fri Sep 06, 2019 22:49 UTC

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Friday disavowed a tweet from the National Weather Service's Birmingham, Alabama, office that had contradicted President Donald Trump's false assertion that Hurricane Dorian was likely to hit ...

NOAA released statement condemning NWS tweet, taking Trump's side in map fiasco
KIVI/KSAW | Fri Sep 06, 2019 22:46 UTC

At the time of Trump's statement on Sunday, the southeastern corner of Alabama had a 5 percent chance of tropical storm-force winds from Hurricane Dorian.

Which of course is NOT what Donny Demento was railing about.

Soooooooo.....NOAA confirms Trump was....right? Yep....pretty sure that's what they said.

Also....Obama said there were 57 states.

That whole 'intelligent/stupid' brush sure is broad....it hits just about everyone at some point.

You make a good point, it hits everyone sometimes but trump seems to walk into it all of the time.

What was it Lincoln said, you can full some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. I don't think trump ever heard that and if he did he wouldn't understand it anyway.

Oh, look. Jay is pretending to believe Trump on the Alabama hurricane issue. How cute . . . and stupid. :D

There's a difference between a slip of the tongue (Dumbya's "They never stop trying to think of ways to hurt us, and neither do we" was another) and being flat out wrong. Besides, your analogy would only fit if Obama had dug in his heels and insisted that there were 57 states, taken a sharpie and drawn a US flag with 57 stars, etc. While I wouldn't be shocked to learn the sites you probably get your news from did make some sort of claim to that effect, the truth is he didn't do it.

Those statements from the NOAA Friday have sparked outrage among many federal workers in the weather and climate science sectors, with the president of the National Weather Service Employees Organization (NWSEO) accusing the agency of undermining the work of its staff.

"Never ever before has their management thrown them under the bus like this," Dan Sobien, president of the National Weather Service Employees Organization told the Daily Beast.

"These are the people risking their lives flying into hurricanes and putting out forecasts that save lives. Never before has their management undercut their scientifically sound reasoning and forecasts."

He added that weather workers are "shocked, stunned and irate" at the statement.

The problem isn't that Trump made a relatively trivial mistake by basing his tweet on days old information. Rather it's his inability to admit to the mistake, in fact going to great lengths to justify making the tweet. It's ridiculous, and unbecoming of someone who wants to be known as President.

It could have all been gone with a simple 'or maybe not, oh well'.

Thing is, the five day Cone Of Uncertainty was never intended to be a forecast. It's a simple graphic of what might be possible but with a wide margin of error. They don't even use it to issue watches as those only happen at 72 hours.

But Donny didn't even take it that way. He made the proclamation totally on his own that AL would be affected.

And now it's extended to forcing his apppointees to lie to back up his lies. Jay is such a dumb bunny to pretend to believe him.

What I'm seeing is that it was an unauthored statement attributed to an anonymous official, so for all we know, Donny or one of his minions could have written it under a NOAA masthead.
