Donation to Authors

I don't know where else to put this but I have a sugestion for Literotica. I have been reading on here for a while. While some of the authors I read and enjoy and move on there are a few that if there were and option I would donate $5/$10 to. I'm sure I could email the author and they would accept money but I'm wondering if there would be support from other readers in this regard as well.

I personally am not an author so would get nothing out of this other than the satisfaction of supporting the authors I REALLY like.

I'm not talking about anything fancy, just Paypal donate option or something similar which would allow authors to list a paypal account in their profile that users could donate to. There are some seriously amazing authors here and although I doubt very many could make a full time income off this site, some might but more imporantly it would give us readers a chance to show our true appriciation. A little extra money never hurt anyone and if everyone donated $5-10 to their favorite author(s) some authors would have a lot of $$$. A second option is for Literotica to offer a "Pay" Memebership for X amount, keep a precentage to pay expenses etc. and allow readers to "donate" the other precentage to their favorite authors that they select ever month. I LOVE that this site is free!!! I'm not trying to say force pay memebership on everyone but this might be another option. You could have a seperate pay forum / section of the forum for paying members only although I don't know if that would benefit anyone or not. I do know that if Literotica did something like this with CCBill or similar you have to have something electronic that you offer members that non members don't recieve. The simpliest solution is paypal'ing authors.

I hope this isn't too much off topic but, there are some authors here that I really admire and I am sure that there are at least some other readers that feel the same.

What does everyone else think? Would you donate to your favorite author(s)?

That's a nice idea, but I'll bet most authors would enjoy some positive feedback even more than five or ten bucks. Post a Public Comment on their story, or send them an anonymous note (if either of those options are turned on) and most will consider that worth more than gold......Carney

what he said. I'm a feedback whore though.

I'm also willing to accept gifts that add to my expensive knicker collection and glass toy collection :D You don't even need to read or like my stories for that!

Wow - Split Decision

I'd love both - I don't post enough here to be known but I am kinda a social-butterfly/geek in chat & am always leading people to my blog or my stories or where-ever I am posting.

Cash would always be nice to boost the body; gotta eat ya know?!

:D

Comments would boost the soul as well.

Blessings A/all,

Julian

Gotta agree with the general sentiment. I've had readers send me everything from new versions of my word processor to a second, larger hard drive to make sure all my stuff in progress is backed up ( happily accepted, naturally ), but the comments ( whether by email or PC ) are the real payment.

If I thought my stuff was good enough for monetary compensation, I'd skip straight to an ebook publisher or something :D

Yeah, me whatever(th):

"Feed(back) me, Seymour!"

I'm just your slightly-above-average feedback slut. :D

One thing that some readers have done for me that didn't require me to set up any kind of paypal was to get an Amazon gift certificate and send it to me. It's a wonderful gift and works well for us that want to stay somewhat anonymous. Just a thought.

I wouldn't mind either.

Feedback is terrific. So is "When is the next chapter coming?" although it tends to make me feel guilty.

But money? I'd love something like that, sure.

'Tis an old maxim in the schools,
That flattery's the food of fools;
Yet now and then your men of wit
Will condescend to take a bit.

Somehow I think I'd feel awkward taking money for writing (not that I wouldn't take it). I doubt anything can quite replicate the feeling of knowing you created something that someone really enjoyed, though.

I wouldn't take it. When/if I come to the point where I believe payment is warranted, I'll go the e-book route.

I do give feedback and normally mostly via personal notes to the authors rather than posts. I'm kind of a lurker normally but to be honest I believe that any author would appriciate a little cash from something they truely enjoy. I couldn't write a story with plot and all to save my life. Paypal'ing money isn't something that everyone can or would do I just thought it would be a nice addition. From what I read and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but, it seems like some of you don't feel your writting is very good and I would have to say the VAST majority of you are plain wrong on that score. I LOVE that you are all posting your works to a place that is free for ANYONE money or no to enjoy. I feel that it is an honor and fully appriciate what Literotica does for you giving you this forum to write and recieve feed back. I just feel for some authors feedback isn't sufficent. I like the Amazon giftcard idea. I wish I had money to send all the authors here $5-10, I don't but there are some that are GREAT and don't even realize how good. Maybe it's modesty or whatever but one author in particular that I am corresponding with via email has NO idea how good (s)he really is and they are ranked very high in the ratings and every thing with TONS of feedback. I'm happy I use the personal responses more than just posting feedback otherwise this author who hasn't been active for a while wouldn't have even seen a post...

I think some of you would be shocked, especially if you are ranked on the first page of the top list in a category, at how many finacial donations you would recieve from your fans if it were an easy couple clicks.

One thing about the top list, it doesn't tell the whole story. I wish there was a weighted top list. I like the current one but could use a second option as well, i.e. most votes ranked by rating. By that I mean have the ability to sort by most votes or a weighted vote point system. i.e. a vote of 1 star = 1 point, 2 stars = 2 points etc. This is a completely different topic so I apologize.

Anyway I will continue to vote and email the talented authors I come across that I really enjoy reading. I know that is the main reason you all do this; I just thought a little something extra wouldn't hurt either.

Again THANK YOU ALL for writting we the readers REALLY do appricaite it, and THANKS to literotica as well for this free location to read what we enjoy!

Always been curious about those donate buttons. I see them on software sites and webcomics and wonder if anyone ever sends money. I could see it being a surprising amount, but I could also see it being a big fat zero. I imagine it's probably somewhere in between.

Seems like a nice idea though. Not sure what the technical / legal implications of adding it would be.

People actually send stuff? That's amazing.

I fear that if there was pay-pal here on lit; there would be immense issues with people stealing stories and posting as their own.

You have a VERY valid point that I had not considered. I guess the best option is as others have suggested, fans joining together to get something special for the authors.

I have read some from the authors who posted here saying they didn't think their writting was good enough to publish and I have to be honest with them, they are slightly dilusional. I don't mean that as an insult! If you could see some of the stuff people make ebooks out of and require payment before you can read you would be shocked. I have been an idiot in my day and I have in the past paid for 1 or 2 and honestly the writting of most here is beyond what the idiots that charge for ebooks write. The only REAL difference is editing, i.e. having better beta readers, which I am considering doing. I'll post in the appropriate place for that though.

I wish everyone was honest in which case the Paypal option would be awesome. If I find software useful that is "free" I deffinately make an effort to donate to the aurthor, a lot of work went into the product and as such even though it was done for reasons other than money it is still nice to let the indiviudal know you appriciate what they do/did.

Isn't there some way to thwart dishonest people posting others works? There has to be some way, but perhaps the risk versus reward and difficulty of implimenting such a system isn't sufficent.

Anyway to all the aurthors here I have to say you are better than you realize and I as a reader REALLY appiciate all of your hard work. I'll speak for the lurkers saying keep up the superb work we the readers support you! And by lurkers I mean people that don't normally post here. I do leave comments/vote.

Love it

I love the idea, though am self-deprecating enough to not expect anything. I, like many who have responded previously, write mainly for the feedback which I enjoy and appreciate.
