With this horrible tragedy today, the nation is going to quickly run low on its supply of blood. So I am urging everyone who can to down a lot of water and head to the Red Cross. We cannot help those whose lives were taken, but we can help those still fighting for theirs.

In the town I live in, there is no place to give blood, or I would.

Very proud of my fellow Hooisers in the state of Indiana...Blood banks are overwhelmed with donations.

They aren't allowing anyone to give blood here in Portland today. There are long lines of people willing to give but the Red Cross is holding off. I'm not clear as to why.

There is only so much blood that can be prcessed for the aids virus and the other nasties germs and virus'.....this slows the process somewhat....glad to here your community is responding PB.

I plan on giving blood as soon as I possible can. I just got a letter from the red cross yesterday, it said "call and donate today" I was planning on calling today. I figure they're swamped right now anyway. So I am going to wait until tommorrow to call.

Ah, that would make sense. I was wondering about that.

Prayer Vigils are being set up in Canada and people are going out to give blood too.

I live at a university here, there is a prayer vigil tonight, and I'm sure that the church, designed to hold about half the student body, will be overflowing.

It's sad. I'm going downtown now to give blood.

The blood can be (and is) stored for some time before testing, and it is stored for some time thereafter. I imagine that the reason is because the donation centers are just overwhelmed right now and don't want everybody to come in at the same time. The actual donation is what takes the longest time per donation.

Try again in a day or two, or even next week, and the week thereafter - the blood will be needed for a while. I will probably give blood next week, right now I may need all of mine for a purpose closer to home.

I would love to, but I don't think I can. I have been sick recently, and have anemia when pregnant.

My husband would be perfect, but he just had the flu over the weekend. (He is 0 neg)

Anyway, I hope everyone gives blood for this, and continues afterwards, for the many other reasons it is needed.
