Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) continues its strategic audit plan to verify the legal status of foreign workers in commercial establishments across the Dominican Republic. In recent operations across Greater Santo Domingo, immigration agents detained 28 undocumented individuals while inspecting 10 businesses, including plazas, hardware stores, and grocery stores.
Notable inspections included Plaza La Cerámica, where nine undocumented workers were detained; Tienda Alibaby (six arrests); Lechonera El Buen Sabor (five); Plaza Jacobo (four); and Ferretería Tropical. Business owners and security personnel cooperated with the authorities during the operations.
These inspections are part of nationwide random checks prompted by public complaints about the widespread employment of undocumented workers. According to the DGM, such practices violate labor laws, encourage tax evasion, and undermine national legal standards. The operations were carried out in coordination with the DGM’s Control, Intelligence, and Legal Directorates, as well as the military and National Police, ensuring legal procedures and due process were followed.
