to dominate is an action. one cannot BE a "dominate". i believe the word some ppl are looking for is DOMINANT.

honestly if i meet a Dom and he told me "i've been a Dominate for a few years now" i'd walk away very quickly.

tis a little thing, i know, but it irks me everytime i see it.

"Hi, i'm new to Lit, i'm a 40 year old exeperienced Dominate...."

LMAO

See my blurt/rant/rave on the same subject in the Blurt thread in the Café last night...

I think it is just a misspelling when they use "dominate" instead of "dominant".

I could be wrong but you would get your ass spanked for pointing it out since I'm a dominate.....

hahahahahaahah

I always assumed I was just ignorant and didnt understand the finer points of the English language, because Im certain Ive read something before about someone going on and on about dominate being the correct term.

Even if it is technically correct, its a dumb way to use the word.

i think sometimes it could be a typo, but when its repeated two or three times in the same post, tis definately not a typo :p

Netzach-ppl actually type "Domme-ay"?

i dunno...."Dominate" - i just dont see how ppl can use it-you see the proper spelling of the word Dominant over and over-theres just no excuse for not knowing how to spell it-thats what irks me.

I find that spelling of "dominant" to be a useful indicator of who is and isn't literate in the online perv world.

Whew, I'm so glad someone else mentioned the dominate thing. It's been jumping out at me too, but as I'd already disagreed with some of his opinions I didn't want to have another go at him, because he actually seems to be quite a nice bloke. No, I don't think it was a typo either.

I think I'm going to be a sublimate when I grow ip.. If only I could find a dominate to assist..:p

Ok damit :)

All right I know I am guilty of this. Honestly it just a subconscious thing on my part. I am sorry if it irked or bothered anyone. I will in the future watch my use of this and make sure I use DOMINANT where it is appropriate.

LOL with my partial southern accent, I'd be waving good bye, as even now when I say them, they sound pert near the same to me. :)

And I can assure you, if I ever met a sub that was this anal retentive about word usage you can be sure I would hold on to her...because well....she's anal retentive :)

Thanks for the correction…grumbles at all the threads I have to go back and fix now.

Dang

I really butchered the use of that word.

Sincerest apologies to all...fixing posts is no fun, at least this mistake won't happen again. I think I got them all, I may have missed one or two.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Well, ssp, you let the cat out, on that one. oh well, illiteracy and ignorance *will* come out one way or another. they will always loose out.

yep, and in my case probably both. I wish I had a better command of the english language as you have Pure. And ignorance does not mean stupid but unkowledgable, which an open mind and a willingness to learn can fix over time.

I still got hope for my sorry ass.

Also by the way. I read back over some of our conversations, and after having more time to think about it, I can see that you were right in more ways than I would have admitted at the time.

Sry for the friction.

thats a very gentlemanly response. i hope civility continues.

This happens to be one of my pet peeves - and I have been known to correct people at random for it (i.e. if someone isn't particularly talking to me, but I notice them doing it, I have to correct them). If they learn from it, I have much more hope for them (like you RJ - you have noted it, and fixed it, and if you do it in the future, it will be an honest typo) ... if they don't, I give them up as a lost cause (because they are usually causing other problems in the chat room too).

Dang indeed RJ, you have a southern accent, how wonderful. Wish we could hear you speak. Now our Aussie accents are pretty darned awful to the ear, but the southern US accents sound to us like sweet music, could listen to them all day. Can't always understand them of course, but sounds great just the same.

Why thank you. My accent comes from my mother as she was an oakie from the ozzarks. I have never spent much time in the south, but people commonly make the mistake that I am from Texas.

And Aussie accents are well...hmmm *drool :)

That settles it then, there is hope for my sorry ass as SD says so.

Thank you :rose:

I agree totally ... I love basically any non-American accent (so Chicago, New York, Southern, etc ... does nothing for me - but French, German, British, Spanish, Greek, whatever ... mega-drool)

I know the difference... Some times my brain gets a head of my fingers... I just type the wrong thing and don't proof it.
