Washington Post reports:

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department said Sunday it is looking into the shooting death of Trayvon Martin to determine whether federal prosecutors will file criminal civil rights charges now that George Zimmerman has been acquitted in the state case.

The department opened an investigation into Martin’s death last year but stepped aside to allow the state prosecution to proceed.

In a statement, the Justice Department said the criminal section of its civil rights division, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Middle District of Florida are continuing to evaluate the evidence generated during the federal probe, in addition to the evidence and testimony from the state trial.

I think it's a "duh" idea. Of course they should, no question.
 
Apparently, in Florida he can now seek immunity to prevent the family from suing him, and if he wins, he can ask for attorney's fees, from them.....
 
Politically the time to do this was months ago. Zimmerman got off, we get to live with it at this point.

The Feds always wait until the local ajh is done. Except when the target is specifically Fed, re OKCity.

You think the feds have something other than a victims word against a dead assailant??? LOL MAGICAL FEDERAL EVIDENCE!!!:rolleyes:

The only thing they can do is get another jury of moms and try the emo appeal one last time. That's it..that's all they got.

The problem is that this is political at this point. If the Feds do anything it's because Obama is looking out for his brothers. He and by proxy the Feds simply can't touch this. It sucks but that's the reality of things.

No but most of the DNC does.....and they all know it's political suicide (except CA, D could win advocating genocide against the white devil out there) if they try and send this guy to jail based on nothing more than emotional appeal of the public, esp on a federal level.

I think it's unlikely to happen because of the ambiguity of the case. Whatever you believe about Zimmerman, and I think he's a scumbag, this was hardly Mississippi Burning, which was essentially terrorism abetted by an apartheid government.

I don't think they'll do it and, if they do, it will be another waste of everybody's time and money. It was pretty much established at the first trial that it was self-defense. Even some of the prosecution witnesses testified to that, although not deliberately.
 
Hmm. I'm wondering if there is actually a fourth amendment case here. Might be interesting legally.
