The Justice Department confirms it is looking into a complaint that accuses Harvard University of discriminating against Asian-American applicants. The probe raises questions about whether college admission policies in general may come under scrutiny by the Trump Administration.

A coalition of more than 60 organizations accuses Harvard of holding Asian-American applicants to higher standards than black and Latino applicants.

It's ok, it's social justice and it's about time those uppity Asians have some of that white privilege taken away from them and re-distributed among the less fortunate.

Maybe it's time to talk about "black privilege."

Harvard faces DOJ probe over affirmative-action policies

The U.S. Department of Justice has opened an investigation into the use of race in Harvard University’s admissions practices and has accused the university of failing to cooperate with the probe, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

The Justice Department is investigating complaints that formed the basis of a federal civil lawsuit filed in 2014 in Boston, according to the documents. That suit alleges Harvard intentionally discriminates against Asian-Americans by limiting the number of Asian students who are admitted.

Was no big thang back when Yale, Harvard, and the other Ivy Leaguers did their best to exclude Jews and blacks. But now it's Asians -- so bad, bad...

For acceptance, grades are important, as are past and present activities, AND the social mix desired by a school's management. The old Ivy Leaguers feared that if only grades counted, they'd be overwhelmed by smart Jews -- and their WASP alumni would stop making donations. Harvard may now fear becoming an Asian school, again causing a drop in alumni giving. Is the discrimination racist-social, or driven by money?

Can a public school rightfully give preference to 1) qualified locals at discounted tuition, 2) non-locals at much-inflated tuitions, and 3) a social mix reflecting their area's demographics?

Even without social preferences, most applicants to top-tier schools will be rejected, same as most job-seekers for competitive positions. It's easier to blame others for your rejection than for your own inability to meet the acceptance criteria.
