Olivia Carlson looked one last time around her home office to make sure she had everything she needed and it was all in its place. A computer sat on the desk, along with math books, notebooks, pencils and a calculator. Two chairs sat on either side of the desk. Everything looked in order for her first tutoring session.

Olivia was an upper level math teacher at the local high school, that her son Stephen also attended as a senior. His friend, Josh, had started college at the university in the next city over this year. Josh and Stephen had been close friends since elementary school and Olivia considered Josh’s mother Joanna one of her best friends as well. So when Joanna told her about Josh’s struggles in math and asked if she would mind tutoring him, she couldn’t say no. So they set up a tutoring schedule for every Friday at 6pm.

She glanced at the clock. Still 20 minutes before Josh arrived. Stephen knew this was important, so he’d agreed stay out until the session was over, then he could hang with Josh for a bit before he had to leave. Her daughter, 12 year old Elaine, was at a friend’s house. Her husband would be working late as usual. They would have plenty of peace and quiet to study.

With his busy course load and part time job, Josh rarely came to visit. Usually Stephen would go over to his place or they’d meet for a quick lunch. Olivia hadn’t really seen much of Josh since he’d started his classes in August. She’d prepared a few of his favorite snacks as well.

Though she was in her own home, she still wanted to look put together and professional for the tutoring session. She wore a black dress with a simple white cardigan over the top. Nothing too fancy, but similar to what she’d wear to work.

She went out into the living room to wait for Josh to arrive.

Olivia opened the door, smiling wide when she saw Josh. Josh and Stephen were best friends, but in high school, they'd become almost polar opposites. Stephen was more into books and Josh was more into sports, and physically it showed. But even now, Josh towered over her, and had filled out even more than the last time she'd seen him. She could see his biceps bulging through his white tshirt. His shoulders were broad and strong.

"Hey Josh!" she said, stepping back to allow him inside, shutting the door before reaching up to hug him. She had to stand on her toes to slide her arms around his neck. "It's so good to see you!" She said, pulling back. She kept her hands on the sides of his arms. "Look at you! You're looking so handsome. You must have all the girls falling all over you!" She laughed and let go. "How have you been?"

She gestured for him to follow her first into the kitchen where she offered him a snack and drinks while they chit chatted and caught up.

"You ready to get started?" She asked, leading him into her office and motioning for him to take a seat in front of her desk. "So....let's talk about where your having trouble. Tell me what's going on." She said, sitting back in her own chair, crossing her legs at the knee.
