Is there one? Every time we go into a car, our puppy pukes... *sigh* There AND back, on the vet trip today... it's gross, on top of me feeling bad for him... any ideas? Do they have doggie Dramamine??

I'm pretty sure they do have doggie Dramamine, but before you try that, you might try the following regimen (worked for Bigfoot as a puppy).

No food or treats thirty minutes prior to the car ride.

Take the puppy on short car trips with no destination daily. Start with five minute trips, and increase the time by five minutes/day.

My guess is Maggie will grow out of it--Bigfoot did. Littlefoot never GOT carsick ever. Lucky dog.
Jammies is correct. The normal treatment for puppy car sickness is a mild sedative with Atropine Sulfate. Limiting water and food prior to the car ride, and short, daily car trips works until the puppy out-grows it.

Thanks, Jammies... I knew I could count on you! :)

Our cocker never gets sick... but this doggie... ugh!

oh, I didn't tell my Maggie story! Maggie was a found puppy... but someone came to claim her! :( I thought we were safe, it had been a few weeks, but her rightful owners came and got her... which was incredibly sad :( The kids were heartbroken...

so of course we had to start looking for another puppy (hadn't even planned to get THAT one!)... and lo and behold, we get another one given to us within a week! My niece, who rescues dogs, often gets people giving her dogs... well someone had bought a 10 week old American Bulldog and didn't realize they could get up to 125 lbs (um, hello!? research?!) so we now have a new puppy... he's a total lover!

Here's a picture of my Romeo: (he's 12 weeks now)

He's adorable, SK.

Both of my dogs are terrible in the car. They can usually take short trips, but anything longer than ten to fifteen minutes and I have to clean out the car. When we moved, I called a vet to find out what to do. I was told you can give a dog regular dramimine, but vary the dosage according to size. Koz is a brute, he's twenty two pounds and Rico is tiny at seven pounds so I gave Koz a full pill and Rico a half of one. It worked like a charm. I've also found that giving them a half of a benedryl tab will cure car sickness too, if we are going on shorter trips.

And I'm sorry about Maggie. I had rescued a Border Collie and a week later found a wanted poster for her. I called and they came and got her, so I know how hard it can be.

first doggie would get car sick and we were poor so the vet said for us to give her one benedryl 20 min before leaving and like everyone said...no food or h2o 1 hour prior to trip.

My fault for feeding him just before we left, too! Duh! But I didn't want him to starve... it was early in the morning and he was used to eating around then...

Thanks for the advice... do you give him an actual Benadryl pill, like for people? Or liquid, like for babies?
