Dog person? Cat person? Why?

Dog person? Cat person? Why?

Okay so despite my username, I'm NOT a cat person. I am a dyed-in-the-wool dog person. I hope never to be dogless while I'm still ambulant.

Why am I a dog person?

Because a cat isn't a wonderful excuse and motivation for going for three good long walks a day.

Because a cat is not a pack animal and therefore doesn't bond with you in the same way a dog does

Because a cat (connected to the last point) would not lay down its life out of loyalty to you

Because a cat pees and poops indoors

Because you can't have hours of fun watching a cat sprint and leap to catch and fetch a frisbee

Because a cat doesn't bark to scare off burglars

Because I am so incredibly allergic to cats I can't even sit next to someone who has cat-hair on their clothes without taking three thousand anti-histamine pills first.

I'm sure I am biased so come on - are you a dog person or a cat person, and why?

There you go! :D

Personally I'm a animal person, I like most animals. Only dogs i have issues with are overly energetic dogs, loud dogs, or the droolers. Personally I adore Collies they have both energy and a calmness that I adore... not to mention they make AWESOME pillows. Btw I have a cat who does play fetch and despite her dislike for it, I use her to carry things all the time.

Cats don't bark.

Cats bathe themselves

You can leave cats alone for days

Cats don't demand attention all the time

My big girl follows me everywhere but she isn't demanding. Much.

There is nothing like a purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Cats are funny at times

I'm a cat person. I don't need to be needed. I like to be loved at random, when I least expect it. And cats can be very social and attached, it depends on the cat. Just like dogs can be asocial and very pack-oriented to other dogs more than people sometimes.

I wonder if there's any trend on the dog-cat front by refernce to whether people ate PYLs or pyls...

another general animal person here, but if i must choose dog v. cat, cats win hands down no question every time.

i love the fascinating individuality of cats. i love that cats aren't people pleasers the way dogs are. i love that i had to earn my cat's love and loyalty. i love the way my cat comes and snuggles up to me always at the times i need it the most. i love the way she kisses me goodnight by sniffing my forehead and licking my nose. i love the fighter/hunter instinct of cats. i love knowing that everytime my cute tubby little furball goes outdoors she has little more than cold-blooded senseless murder on the brain. i love the way she "talks," how no one ever has any problem at all understanding exactly what she's trying to express. i love how cats often choose their owners, as opposed to being chosen.

and domestic cats save people too, dogs don't have the copyright on that one. it's just that with the family dog it's almost an automatic reflex, and with the family cat it's very selective.

and yes i do like dogs too, quite a bit, but it's not quite the same. they are so loving and trusting, so accepting and tolerant. wonderful feel-good qualities, but there's something about being deemed worthy by a finicky feline that just feels great.

when it comes to dogs tho, i like what i deem to be "real" dogs. the working dogs, guard, herding and hunting dogs. my favorite "breed" is the pit, i had two in Virginia and they are just the most awesome amazing dogs ever. if i'm going to have a dog, it needs to be one that i can feel safe and protected with, but still flexible and trainable. pits, rotties, dogos, provide that ideal mix of lovable pushover family dog and armed and dangerous bodyguard.

I'm definitely a dog person, ever since I was little I have loved dogs. I have two dogs that are like my children, but so much more than that. They look after me just as much as I look after them.

That doesn't mean I don't like cats. I do. I just feel I've bonded far more closely with my dogs than any cat I've ever owned (and I've loved a couple of cats too). A think a cat's mind is more alien to a human's than a dog's or something.

At the risk of sounding dumb, what's PYLS/pyls?

I'm a dog person, because there can be only one Dom in my household.

The difference between a dog and a cat:

The dog thinks:"Hey, he feeds me, plays with me, pets me - I'm in heaven and he must be the god."

The cat thinks:"Hey, he feeds me, plays with me, pets me - I'm in heaven and I must be the god."

LOL Primalex - well put.

PYL = "Pick Your Label" meaning dom, master, top etc.

pyl = "pick your label" meaning sub, slave, bottom etc.

I'm not an animal person, but I'll take a cat over a dog. Can't stand the constant adoration.

I've been bitten twice by girlfriend's dogs over the years. I'm sure if I had a dog I'd love it but I just can do without them. My sisters dog likes to stick his nose deep into your buttcrack. I was in my neighbor's house the other day and one dog was licking on me while the other one was barking. They are annoying.

I like cats because they don't need the attention a dog does.

Dogs remind me of children. They need constant love and affection. You have to let them out to pee, you have to train them.

Cats will use the litter box as long as you get the fixed young. Cats will groom themselves. Cats might enjoy loves, but if you don't have time won't have a snit. Cats can amuse themselves with a homemade toy.

I like them all. I'm just an animal person. There's good in everything.

I'm such a cat person! I do like all animals but between cats and dogs, I'm all about cats.

Dogs smell like, ugh, wet dog, pretty much all the time.

Dogs fawn all over you in a slavish and droolly way. Ugh!

Dog hair tends to be course while cat hair tends to soft and silky.

Dogs take craps outside usually on the lawn of someone who doesn't own them!

Cats are more independent.

Cats are with you when they want to be, because they want to be.

Cats can be very demanding and very people centered without being fawning little pains in the ass.

Cat kisses are less slobbery, thank goodness!

Cats don't have to be walked, are not generally taken to work or banks or to get gas as dogs with co-dependant owners are and you will NEVER see one in a purse on Paris Hilton's arm!

The sound of a cat purring is one of my fav sounds in the world!

I love, love, love my cats!

:rose:

I am a dog person all the way.

To make a good dog you must train him. He can't do well on his own, you must give him some rules or he might bite you in the ass. You must tell him what he can do and what he cannot. Dog need the collar around his neck and the leash firmly in his owners hand. You must care for him and show him he can trust you. You must guide him and keep him in line. You must tell him when he's good and punish him when he's bad. Dog knows the voice of his owner. To really own a dog you must tame him first. You must break him and show him whos the boss and wheres his place. You must train him so long till he's so well trained he's good like a sheep. Dog loves lying at your feet, loves when your hand pets him. Dog loves and adores his owner and does what he's told n when he's told. Cat would go with anyone, trained dog would go just with his owner. Dog needs a cage.

Your dog, a good dog, would die for you.

Having a dog is like having a child. The kitten is going to be a lap cat I'm afraid.

A well-trained dog will run with you, swim with you, play in the snow. Climb mountains, ford streams, explore forests. Come when you call him; sit, stay, or fall silent on command. Sprint to the door and behave as if your return is the most delightful thing imaginable, whether you've been gone for 3 weeks or just 3 hours. Defend you, to the best of his ability and to the death, if necessary, from enemies large and small.

Loving partner aside, there is no finer companion, and no creature more loyal on earth.

Train, yes. Break, absolutely not.

And a well-trained dog does not need a cage.

Animal person. I just don't have room for dogs right now. My perfect spot would be a roomy space with goats, chickens, sheep, horses, dogs, cats, birds, fish....you get the idea.

Dogs. I love them, adore them. They are great companions. I am a country gal at heart. I fish, hunt, camp out, etc.

I have raised (over the years) red nosed pitts, rotties, german shepards, am-staff pitts, dobies and labs. All of them were loyal, courageous, loving, and well trained.

Give me a dog over any cat, any day.

i like both... but we have 4 cats and I can say some of your reasons are mistaken...my cats have bonded closer than my dogs, my cats fetch and chase their toys and each other
