My kids have been hounding me (no pun intended) to get a dog. Well I broke down and finally did it, but we're in a major disagreement as to what to name the little guy. So I'm soliticing suggestions for a name for our new dog. I wanted Beavis, but it was totally shot down by the wife and kids.

He's a reddish colored mutt. I think he'll wind up being around 40 pounds or so. I'm looking for something a bit unusual. I don't want a dog named Bob or Steve.

In the doing my good deed department, instead of buying a dog, I went to two different dog pounds looking for the right dog. I knew he was the one the moment I saw him.

Here's a pic so you get the general idea, and perhaps it will inspire your creativity.

What about Twix? Its cute and he's awsome.

(an aside: I just got a new kitten and we named him Goosefrabah. We call him Goose for short)

He reminds me of my uncle's old dog Bandit.

He also doesn't quite look like a Skeet or a Skipper, but that's the closest that comes to mind. Sorry I couldn't help (yet), WC.

Is that usual? I mean, for a dog?

On the other hand, who am I to give suggestions? I have a cat named Nonsense.

So cute

I love dogs ( have two)
That looks alot liike a breed called a "Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever"
and by alot i mean alot ;)

As for names i think i would go for something quirky but unusual,

like Loki, the Norse god of Mischeif....

or Lazarus or something like that.....

Loki is good.... wanted to name my german shepherd that, but was shot down by the BF. I would've picked Ronin if I'd only thought of it at the time.

My choice for the pup would be Scout. (think to kill a mockingbird...)

PS... thank you for adopting a mutt from the pound and saving a life, instead of purchasing from a puppy mill :rose:

Well, I was going to say "Tony" or "Max," but since you don't want an all-too-common person's name, hmmmm . . .

How about Cow (it's funny in an ironic way :)) or Red or Murphy (technically a person's name, but not common) or something?

*edited to add that I actually knew a guy w/a dog named Cow. When Cow died, he got a new dog, and guess what he named it? Cow Also. I kid you not.

what about....

Blue.

As in I've got a dog named Blue.....

But I also liked the Ronin suggestion.

I hope u let us know what u decide on.

He looks like a Casey to me, but I know you don't want ordinary. The only other thing I can think of is Rufus, which btw means redhead. Good luck with the lil fellow. He looks like a sweet pooch!

Dakota
Sassafras
Malcolm
Marmalade (maybe because of his color?)
Byron

Oh, I like Dakota. That's nice.

I also like Loki.

And such a cute pup.

AND such a good thing to get him from a pound.

I agree with SylphOne, he DOES look like a Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retriever.

So, you might think about a Nova Scotian term for his name.

Unfortunately, the ones that come easily to mind are rather inelegant. Calling him Baywop, Goler, or Bluenose would tend to detract from your generosity in offering him a home.

Fax (a local name for Halifax) would have the virtue of being short, while Gripper (a name for a 66 ounce bottle of liquor) might be more appropriate.

BTW: I have no idea what "duck tolling" may be, but the breed is also known as a Little River Duck Dog in Nova Scotia.

Something tells me that I haven't been of much help.

Rufus . . .that is so normal. . .there is alist on the internet of common dog names and that one is right near the top, as is Loki. I know six dogs named Loki. *sigh* was hoping for some cool name. Oh well. Still a really cute dog. :kiss:WC

Well

Well, Loki might be common but it was better than Rufus.
He's going to be calling out here Ruffy, ruffy. Sounds like he's trying to peddle some drugs, lol.
Hope the kids like the name at least ;)
