First off, this is a post meant for people who do not make their living as authors. If you ARE blessed enough to do so, I both hate you and admire you. Kudos!

For the rest of us, a question. Has your job ever done anything to inspire you to write erotica or scenes in your erotica?

I spent over five years as a server, and getting my futter wackened was something of a pastime. So scenarios make their way into my stories. I also worked in a call center for some years, and having sex was often a psychological survival technique, given how much the job sucked. I love including RL elements in my works, it makes me excited to write them.

I currently work in the tv/movie industry, and there are lots of liberal-minded individuals out there who don't mind taking a tumble, especially if you can sneak into a set and go at it there. Get laid on the bridge of a spaceship, I highly recommend it! :D

But back to my query- does your job, current or past, ever give you worrying material for your erotic stories?

Nah. Not the erotic parts, anyway. I have some characters who were inspired by people I knew at or through work, but the eros is made up. Many scene's and experiences from work also make it into my stories.

Actually, after not working in Boston for years, when I got a job with a furrier on Newbury Street as their controller before getting a job with a modeling agency as their business manager, on the same street, I was inspired to write my first novel.

Born in Boston and educated there, I never worked in Boston but when I did, oh, my God, I was flooded with inspiration.

Based on the personal accounts of my four brothers, who were all boxers, leg breakers, and all around bad men working for the mob, I wrote Computer Knockout. The story was about a retired champion who returned to boxing by using computer imagery and holographs to train that was developed by an MIT engineer.

Just walking around Boston was all that it took. Every day I spent my lunch hours walking through the Boston Common, the Public Gardens, Commonwealth Avenue, Boylston Street, and Newbury Street.

Talk about inspiration. When I walked around Boston, I could feel Hawthorne, Melville, and Emerson walking with me.

"Why is that woman talking to herself?"

"She thinks she can communicate with famous, dead writers."

In a way, yes. I have spent a good portion of my career working in office buildings, amid groups of people, large and small, and I've had plenty of opportunities to observe people's daily routines, the office hierarchy, politics, etc. Because an office is a somewhat regimented and repressed environment, it is, in a way, ideal for erotica, and quite a few of my story ideas, and a few of my published stories so far, arise in an office setting.

Sure. The first story I submitted was about a person who got stranded at work with a coworker when a train derailed in front of their workplace during a snow storm. I started writing it on a night when I was stuck at work after a train derailed in front of my own work place. Of course, IRL, I was stuck with a whole group of people, which would have made for a very different story. Mrs. Polyacrylate probably would have frowned on any funny business happening, too.

I often pull images or ideas from real life, either as central concepts or as events to flesh out the fictional world.

While I might borrow appearances or certain personality traits, I try not to write characters as fictionalized versions of real people.

oh, hell yeah. i had two jobs in the past that were fantastic in that i had coworkers who were just as depraved as me. i've fucked on a conference table, the manager's desk, in the safe and locker room at one job. at the next, there was a maintenance guy with a huge cock and the first thing he ever said to me was standing beside me at the urinal, 'i want you to suck my dick." now who could turn down an offer like that? i happily obliged as often as possible, in empty offices and even once in a broom closet while people walked past. i have old stories on my hard drive that came from those experiences that i've been considering revamping.

Everything inspires me for the story-lines. Work, holiday, family and friends. I just use it in small portions
Same here, although not everything gets linked to erotica. I usually link it to characters. If they get to have sex, it'll be part of their background/character trait.

Likewise. To me, it's 'being alive.' If I didn't live life with a sensual outlook, I'd be dead.

44 years in the worlds oil fields. No, the work didn't inspire me but the travel did. Lots of towns and places around the world. Lots of people. All kinds of people. Characters come in all shapes and sizes and they are wandering around everywhere. What if and I wonder why questions can be seen everywhere. Those are what inspire me. You just have to look around with an open and dirty mind. :D

Work? Geez, inspire erotica? Not really. I was in the service, and then a software engineer. Now there were a lot of people I met, knew, that inspired erotic thoughts, but no situations ever arose that were truly erotic.

But I do use my knowledge base of people, places, and things to create the worlds in my stories.

But nothing has ever been written about where I worked.

Sure. I've used a bunch of work experiences in my stories here.

Not sexual ones, though; playing with co-workers isn't how I roll.

All the time.
I volunteer at a food pantry and am always writing scenarios in my head while I'm there.

Not disparaging what you do, mind...

But I had soooooooooo many ideas flying through my head about a pantry worker having sex with a bunch of single moms who use it...

I used to be a traveling consultant. Spent lots of times in airports and hotels, and constructed many elaborate sexual fantasies. Few of them turned into real life experiences, but many made their way into my "...On the Road" stories.

My work inspires me every day.

Unfortunately, it only inspires me to yell at people, who can't hear me, and tell them what stupid assholes they are. Maybe that can make a nice Non-consent story for someone else. Maybe something along the lines of shoving a light pole up some ignorant bitch's....

Apologies.

Yes, work has inspired me immensely in writing and has propelled my best stories. My father's work and my own in the oil business have been a profound influence on the My Cousin Janie story. My additional work in the engineering field has influenced many of my other stories. One of my cheating husband stories rang so true with my wife, she asked questions based on the work the guy was doing. This didn't happen babe, I had to say.

I think the legitimacy of a story can be enhanced by knowing one or multiple fields. That draws a reader in. You don't have to be an expert and know every nut and bolt or even have fucked your secretary in the office. But if you've been there and seen the office, and can describe it, you can be a whole lot more convincing than if you'd been the guy boffing the secretary.

I think most people would be surprised to find out that our biggest client demographic is senior citizens. We get them the most, followed by families, then a single parent, then single people with no kids.

I actually started a story based on the food pantry. My friend loves hearing about my work day there so she challenged me to write a story.
It doesn't involve any co-volunteers or any clients, but was set at the food pantry.

Oh yeah. I used to work at a golf course, in the Pro Shop. Most of the time it was insanely boring. Once I checked the golfers in, there wasn't much to do. Occasionally I sold snacks, drinks, a golf glove... Most of our customers were seniors on fixed incomes so they didn't buy much.

I got in trouble there quite a few times. Put on disco music over the loud speaker and had all the golfers out there dancing prior to a tournament. They all loved it but the golf pro did not. Busted! Then there was the TV. I switched to some channel other than golf. Busted again. Then there were books. I would bring them in and leave them for my coworkers to read. I was always discreet when reading and would quickly stash the book if a customer came in but a coworker was not. She was sitting on a bar stool with her feet on the counter, reading and ignoring the customer. She blamed me for the book! So they made the rule that we could only read golf related stuff.

I really didn't get in big trouble. Both of my bosses liked me. They said I was the only one to take the job seriously, the only one to have ever sold a set of clubs and I increased sales a lot! Mainly by hanging out in a local chat room and inviting people to come try the course. I also got a lot of women to take up golf, and a lot of younger people. But I digress...

Most of the time, when I got bored at work, I would exercise. This was allowed because the type of exercises I did were good for golfers.

But there were two men that got me to writing. I can't give too many specifics because the one guy was kind of important person. I'll just refer to him as Bigwig.

For some reason, Bigwig had the hots for me. He used to come in and do my work for me such as vacuuming and dusting. My coworkers didn't believe me because this guy was known as an ass. But they waited outside until they knew he would come in and sure enough, they saw him fawning all over me and vacuuming the carpet!

I had another incident involving Bigwig's two sons. I did not know they were his sons, not that it would have mattered to me. This was a military course and rules were strict. And the two were violating all over the place. I called security. Meanwhile, my coworkers were freaking out, thinking I'd get fired.

Instead, Bigwig came in and thanked me for doing what I did. Said they had probably been getting away with all sorts of stuff for a very long time and would have likely continued it had I not called them out.

The sons then came in, presented me with flowers and said they would take me to lunch. I declined the lunch offer though.

Anyhoo... Bigwig was not not my type at all. Not in the least. But the fact that he kept fawning over me led to some rather erotic thoughts.

Next guy, I will refer to as B. Now he may well have been my type! Tall, very distinguished looking, nice deep voice, sexy cologne.

My stories of him involved us taking a golf cart out after hours and screwing like crazy on the damp, soft grass.

This particular year, our course went spikeless (no more spikes on the shoes). Golf pro was a fiend, looking for violators. One poor guy had a spike that was stuck in his shoe. We all tried and couldn't get it out. They were fairly new shoes and he didn't want to buy another pair so kept on wearing them. This drove the golf pro crazy! He kept looking for the guy with the spike. We all knew who it was but never outed him.

Another time there was a barefoot golfer. Golf pro came in screaming about toe prints on the greens!

You can see where I am going with this. Imagine butt prints on the greens! Hehehe.

Another time I was working for a very large store. It had been a different store prior and had been remodeled multiple times. This left it with an odd assortment of stockrooms. At one point, there was a very small stockroom with a locking door.

I had a crush on one of the department managers. He had pale pink skin with freckles, bright blue eyes and curly blonde hair. When he blushed, he turned a deep red. I realize that I could not get away with this today but back then, I went out of my way to make him blush. He referred to me as the girl who could make anything sound dirty. Actually, he was the sporting goods manager and there a heck of a lot of things in that stockroom with dirty sounding names. So it was all too easy for me. Poles, rods, nymphs...fishing stuff. And there was a box with the name Hymen on it. Last name of the guy who owned the company that made whatever was in that box. And then of course all kinds of balls.

Now that was what I did in real life but secretly I wished to lock him in that stockroom and suck him off. It wasn't just him either. As time went on, I wanted to do the same to some other guys. Never acted on it though but made for a nice story

And then there was my office. In my stories, my office was never really the actual office that I had which was quite basic and furnished only with essentials and shared desks but...

The office in my stories was more like my boss's office. But mine was much more plush and inviting and had a full bath in there as well.

In my stories, I would call whichever one of my men that I wanted. I had a special phone to do this. Like that phone that Batman had. The guy would come in right away, bringing me whatever I wanted and then hanging out under my desk by my feet to do my bidding. Sometimes they stayed after hours and we used the nice comfy couch to get it on.

Ah... Those were the days!

I don't work and haven't for fifteen years or more and that was before I started writing.

If I'm not sitting at the desk, I don't think about writing. Ideas don't come easily . . . which is probably why I don't have more stories posted.

but no situations ever arose that were truly erotic.

A situation doesn't need to be erotic to inspire a story. As somebody wrote somewhere else here in the forum (sorry, can't find the thread): People fuck. So a situation inspires a story and if a relationship emerges, the sex comes automatically...

In fact, you could take almost any standard main stream novel and add sex scenes. The 'normal' authors usually just exclude them.

So yes, work has inspired my work.

OP: Of course. My catalog barely scratches the surface of my work experiences. When/if I write again, more will be featured. I can even relate my stint selling XMas trees. (It gets kinky.) All life experiences inspire some bit of storytelling. Fucks are everywhere.

To write? No.

To drink heavily, cuss repeatedly and have a picture of the company logo and my supervisor’s face printed on rolls of toilet paper? Yes.

I'd say yes. I've worked many types of jobs in my life as my bread and butter. Writing has always been my greatest love - therefore I've never thought to use it as a money source because I've always known it would destroy my love for such a treasured gift. I now see that someday soon, writing will be all that's left for me. And I'm not that old, still adventurous, always realistic. There's a story in EVERYTHING seeking inspiration.
