I much prefer comments. Positive or negative doesn't really matter to me. If it's sincere, I consider it.
If it attacks the story, I'm fine with it and let it stand. If it attacks me personally, I just delete it...unless I decide to have a little fun with it and answer.
Votes and Favorites are a waste of time. Readers get upset if voting isn't enabled, but I could not care less about votes. As I've mentioned, I give 5 stars to any story that gives me wood or that I can actually read to the end. Anything else gets no vote. I know I'm not alone. So all the "analysis" about how page count affects voting are kind of silly when you have people like me providing vote data.
Favorites are also suspect. I use them as bookmarks on stories I might read later.
