Does anyone use rules for posting Public Comments?

I finally had to say something. After several extremely long public comments to my story (there were three chapters, so they were in different places), someone posted a 6300 word commentary. My first chapter was 15 pages in Word, I saved the readers comment and it was 11 pages. I dont even like the thought of deleting a comment, now matter what the content, but I felt like that was too much. I wanted to find out if any other authors have rules about posting, either for content, abusive language, or length of the comment. If so, is it something you have to point out in every story or do you just enforce them? If not, am I a jerk?

I deleted his post and emailed him, apologizing for any inconvenience. I told him he could post again and say anything he wants, if the length was more reasonable. I even saved his post so he could have it back to shorten or put on the Bulletin Board (where I think it would be more appropriate). I told him that I would help him start a thread if he wanted and he could mention the thread in my comment section. Now we all know that he's probably going to 1-bomb me about 100 times (oh well, I had a 4.75). I appreciate a reader having so much passion about what I said (even if the passion is hating what I said). I just felt like that was too much.

I probably should have asked this here before deleting his comment, but I'm nothing if not impulsive. Any advice from people who've been doing this a lot longer than me (which is pretty much everybody). If it's OK for me to have rules about public comments, do I need to mention them at the end of my stories? I certainly don't want anyone to feel blindsided or shortchanged.
Thanks...

Geez...and all I get are two to three lines of comments, if even that, from readers.

I think it's only reasonable to delete those huge-ass comments. I mean, what does this person think we have email feedback for anyway? I appreciate a lengthly attentive comment, but 6300 words qualifies as spam to me. Hell, it could be a Lit submission on its own! I think you did the right thing. Personally, I've never heard of anything like this happening.

See, less is more when it comes to vicious comments I think. :)

I get, "Your story gave me a boner. Want to IM?"

I've gotten them too, but I didn't what to tell everyone! Shhhh!

Short comments rock!

So you do get my comments!

I like the short mean ones. My favorite was "This story sucks cock and the author is a Mother-Fucking Asshole!" which you can still find in After The Fact, Chapter 2. It was by someone named Annonymous (he seems to post on my stories a lot).

I want to be fair, the person who wrote the impassioned email actually gave me a 4 on the story. I just wish Literotica had some rule of thumb so that I didn't have to be the bad guy. I think he was posting more in frustration of other people liking my story (Loving Wives section). The posting wars seem to have generated my biggest headaches this time around (trust me, I'm not complaining, people were very nice to me overall).

Oh, one of those. By all means, delete it, and don't feel bad. It's your story, not a "post here" bulletin board for the internecine warfare between the category's fanatical factions. I think you did the right thing. I'm not sure what I would do if I received a 6300-word "comment"; it's more like a novella.

Hmm I see your point, I think it would be better to phrase it..."Wanna IM, your story gave me a boner."

This is always a question for me- do i do the sucking-up first, and then proposition, or do I make my unwanted advance first, and THEN do the suckup?

What does Miss manners say about that?

I think Miss Manners replied to this very question in the Ottumwa Ottawaian in 2003....

I think making the unwanted advance first is the most important thing.

Want to IM?...well if you get slapped right there and then, she won't hear about your boner and risk getting the double slap.

If she is agreeable to IM'ng and, IM'ng complete stranger, then there is a good chance that having a boner won't even phase her....

So definitely...the Unwanted Advance first....

I'll write that on my cuff, so I can get it right next time, thanks! :)

Maybe he was just too lazy or impatient to wait to go through the whole story submission process and thought.."hey! here's good!"

6300...it should have a PC board of its own...

anyways, you did the right thing...in fact, i think you went well and above what most authors probably have done (ahem, meaning me).

The PC board isn't for people to vent their rants and for personal feelings about a category ..it's for...say it with me now... Comments about the STORY!

( to the troll who keeps feels compelled to listen to all of my audio submissions and then compelled to post that they hate all audio stories - may such an enormous bulbous pustule form upon your nose covering your eyesight that you must spend eternity listening to audio books)

You did nothing wrong, in my opinion, S-Des.

That was spam. If they wanted to write something that long to you, they should have e-mailed or given a private comment.

Add my opinion to everyone else's here.

6300 words? For heaven's sake. Delete it. Someone has issues with their own self-importance.

I think it shows incredible class on your part to have saved the PC for them; I don't know if I would have gone that far.

AND - avoid Loving Wives. Many readers in that category are insane.

(?)

Insanity is just a state of mind.
Or mine? Or sumpthin.

Anywho, a long PC would be nice if it dealt with the story and was kinda flattering and slobberin on your shoes type stuffs, but seriously, 6300 freakin words? How many ways can you say:

You give good font.
