Does anyone use kazaa??

kazaa is loaded with spyware, get rid of it, I use bearshare and it works fine, there are ads, but you have the option of not installing the spyware applications.

are you using windows XP?

spyware is programs that hook to your web browser and send your surfing informaton to marketers. In doing this they interfere with the operation of your web browser. That will cause the problems described by pumpkin.

you are using windows XP, that is good. you will need to take the other users out of the Administrator's group to prevent them from seeing your files.

Right click on my computer and select manage
double click on "local users and groups"
double click on groups
double click on administrators
highlight everybody's account but yours and click on remove
click on OK
double click on power users
click on add, type the names of the user accounts you want to add then click on "check names":
when done click on OK, then OK again.

you might have some problems running some programs. but it's the best way of doing it.

these directions are the "techie" version, if anybody knows how to do it in a simpler way hop in!

had to stop using it..... it fucked up my windows or vice versa

Yeah! I had Kazaa for about a month and my computer hasn't been right since!

If you get Kazaa lite, there is no spyware.

Advice: Don't download programs on your computer til you've researched what comes with them.

LL, to answer your question, as soon as I finish downloading for the day, I either burn them onto CD's and delete the files from the computer, or I move them into a different folder rather than keeping them in the Kazaa shared folders.

I can't get Kazaa Lite working for me anymore, it wants me to upgrade.

WinMX is still working though.

edit to say:

I don't think there's any way to make them inaccessable unless you burn them to a cd and remove them from your hard drive. I could be wrong though.

I need some help on how to keep the files I've downloaded NOT accessbile to my daughter or other users. I've got my computer setup for different users to use their own identity and password.

use kazaa lite and create two user accounts one for you (the admin account) , create a new account for your daughter in control panel/user accounts in the create and account area.
click create a new account, select a name for that account , eg: daughters name, click next, then change the account type to limited.

limited users can only change there own passwords, pictures and desktop settings, view files they created and view files in the shared documents folder.

Just dont keep the files downloaded in the shared folder dir..

hope this helps

How much does Kazaa lite differ from the regular version. I got the no spyware bit but what else?

Or is there?

A good idea would be to bad mouth the spyware in a program, create a dublicate program and have them use it as an alternative.

All that would change would be WHO was spying.

As far as I know, it's the same program, it just has the spyware removed and puts a dummy file in that makes it THINK that the spyware is there.

There are quite a few "Versions" of Kazaa lite out there and one other program I found awhile back under some other random name, including the opensource "Version" that I use.. Let me dig out the links and I'll post them.

I've got xp and kazaa, I haven't had any problems.

I think I downloaded 335 mp3's and 15 music videos, also some reading material. The only problem i have is sometimes I can't get it to connect, I have to try over and over, that's frustrating.
