Im almost 100% sure its in the gay male catagory

I think it started with a guy in highschool dating another guy but then the other guy left to join the army and so did the younger guys brother. he tried to keep in touch but the other guy told him to stop emailing him. the younger guy ended up in an abusive relationship and the older guy because a cop and they ended up meeting eachother again.

If you recognise the story please let me know I liked it alot and really want to find it again.
