Does anyone read sig lines?

Yes.

That answer was rejected as too short, as it was under 5 chararacters. Try this one:

Yes. I read the sig lines of people I'm curious about. Like AVs, sig lines provide a clue to character, quirks, desires and demons that make the AH such an intriguing little group.

They're like bumper stickers.

This dead guy seems familiar? Did I kill him with my word? lol Thanks Sher! LOL

Is a featured artist of mine in a sig line a waste of space?

How can you waste cyberspace?

I turned sigs off once when a few AHers had such complicated ones, they took forever to load and made it difficult to scroll through a thread. That hasn't happened in a while.

Representing yourself - whether it's with something you've created or something you admire - is what the sig space is for, isn't it?

I've googled poems because of excerpts that I read in AH sig lines. I'm not likely to follow a link to an artist I know nothing about - but give me a snapshot, and if it interests me, I'll find out more.

Why do you have one, then? I do read them, but I wondered the use of them? No use?
No, Charlie. I have one because I happen to like Jameson's and someone morphed that for me and I like the Give-A-Fuck-O-Meter. :) Also, there's a link to my stories ;)

Except for the obvious more practical purposes they have, like linking you to the author's page, etc, I think they have a similar purpose to our " title" and location, and AV. It's a little part of who we are. It gives us the opportunity to be different from the person below us, or above us. It's a statement of self without saying it directly.

I don't think someone would put something in a sigline that does not have important significance to them - somehow. It tells me something about you without spelling it out directly (mostly) It's like a personal artifact - like having a tattoo or a piercing in real life.

Whether you consciously read them or not, they're there, and people get used to them and see it as part of who you are.

There's that line between the post and my sig. It's in everyone's posts. I automatically flag everything below that line as sig. And often stop reading once I get to that line.
Yeah, but Charley's right in your case. You really ought to change the font or something, Rob. I know you're not doing it deliberately, but it makes your posts a little harder to read. Nowhere near as a bad as some people's sig's though.

i was wondering why everyone kept looking at my ass.

i read them and enjoy them. i dont care if they are a mile long, that's what the scroll on my mouse is for. if i really didn't want to read them, i would turn them off.

Sig lines to me are those little clues to what the person might be like. If their post is interesting and they link to something in the sig line I'll look. I personally use mine as one more place to be silly with.

I have kept them off recently because my son is around and looks at everything....so if I want to scroll down a bit sig lines would still be up there and some have graphic pics on them...

I had no idea you had my link until this thread...and I'm blushing...and so very speechless.

Thank you Charley, for feeling that I was worthy enough to be a featured artist.

Oh and as for your original question...when I had them on, yes. I read them, I enjoyed them, I would follow the links (if they worked).

Sig lines are just that. A signature. A "link" into the world of that particular person.

If I hadn't read his sig line, I would never have known that SubJoe suffers from a massive ouvre. Donations to the medical fund and research foundation can be sent to me via PayPal.

For what it's worth, I think ATTENTION WHORE would be a useful font.

You have to wonder about that?

*glancing about*
LUCKY!!! Come 'xplain somethin' to Vella, 'kay?

. . . and it is a great procrastination tool. . . Oh look! There's that link to Sara Bareilles in Becca's sigline. I've liked Sara B ever since I saw her in Girl Play. And Love song is such an incredible song.

;)

Yes, I read siglines, not every single one, and as others have said, I get a bit pissed off when they're really, really, really long but i've not met a sig that's forced me to turn sigs off...some have come close though *L*

I think they give an indication to a posters personality, and if I'm interested in that poster, I'll check out their sig and follow links if I feel so inclined:)
