Does anyone read sig lines?

I did a while ago, and have put a featured artist in place of my own story promo. I think certain artists (author or poet or other) deserve a nod or two. Does it matter that I do this? Does anyone really read sigs?

Couldn't give a fuck about it, to be honest.

But I do look, just to see what is important to peeps at the moment.

I generally have them off, because they can clutter things up, but whenever I view someone's profile I always read them. I very rarely follow links in them though, to be honest.

On an unrelated note, upon reading the thread title, this idea appeared in my head of some sort of signature line divination ("Yes, I do sig line readings.").

I read them, and use the links to get to author's pages...

I very rarely read anything off the top lists or the new releases anymore...what limited time I devote to reading goes to read works by authors I am already interested in...

Is a featured artist of mine in a sig line a waste of space?

Hardly anyone on any of my forums ever reads signatures, and links are followed even less.

I only click links to your profiles when I want to see what some of you have written. It's not something I do often.

I...

Read them if they are short and contain somthing interresting.
Click on occational links in them.
Get thoroughly annoyed by ass-numbinly long sigs full of images.

What makes you read a sig line?

Sig lines are never read. They are, however, a valuable source when looking for the works of a particular author. Otherwise, it's just crap.

Why do you have one, then? I do read them, but I wondered the use of them? No use?

I'm okay with sig lines, but I'm not a fan of sig 640x480 photos, sig trashy song lyrics, sig cute oversize fonts, etc.

I read siglines, click on them when I feel like it, and have several authors and an artist I'm particularly fond of in my sigline, along with a link to my own work and a couple of game links.

It's on my screen.

I stop reading it if I find nothing that interrests me within 0.5 secs though. WHAT interrests me differ from day to day.

What makes me NOT read a sig line is easier:
- Big pictures
- Long chunks of text
- ATTENTION WHORE FONTSIZE

I read 'em. Often use them to easily find another authour's stories.

I do get annoyed at the sigs that go overboard with colours, fonts and pics.

I wonder often if mine is too much.

No offence? Yours (sig line) looks like part of your post?

There's that line between the post and my sig. It's in everyone's posts. I automatically flag everything below that line as sig. And often stop reading once I get to that line.

Too bad - you might learn something. ;)

Not hardly...although my own particular appreciation of your currently featured artist means that while I smile every time I see her name, I don't follow the link...

She has been one of my favorite people and writers for quite some time and I am proud to say that she as even allowed me the opportunity to proof or edit for her, so....

...and if anyone here has not read Honey's work? you need to...

Joey's Sunset would be a great place to start...

I just clicked on your Featured Author link. I guess it works and not a waste of space.

Sig lines that are excessively long with quotes, pictures and links make my eyes slide past to the next person's post.

I skim sig lines, but often miss what's written. On the other hand, I have used them to get to an author's work or pics often. Mine is bland, but other than my stories I don't have a lot I'm trying to say, so I figure why annoy people? I hadn't noticed your reference to Honey, but I have read her sig in the past and used it to get to her stories. In addition to reading stories from the bio, a lot of times I'll look over the author's favorite's page. Too many people don't take the time to update that. I've read a number of stories from a favorite's page (and once or twice been amazed to find myself on one :D ).

But Blip, the yellow ball of fury has been my favorite sig line since I first saw it. Sometimes less is more (and funnier).

I happen to enjoy a bit of kink in my caffeine. Thanks babe.

Yes.

That answer was rejected as too short, as it was under 5 chararacters. Try this one:

Yes. I read the sig lines of people I'm curious about. Like AVs, sig lines provide a clue to character, quirks, desires and demons that make the AH such an intriguing little group.

They're like bumper stickers.
