Does anyone have a solution to killer migraines?

Take your thumb and push against the roof or your mouth really hard - hold for at least a minute.

Chocolate, orange juice (from the orange) and sleep. I have them a lot, usually this helps, if not then it requires a trip to the ER for a shot of Tortol (sp).

Hope you get to feeling better. (((Siren)))

Is that for real or just a remedy to shut me up????

:p

Hot compress to the side of my face, as hot as I can stand it. Headache is usually on one side at a time for me.

Daily capsules or cups of feverfew-brew and drink the herbal tea-this is a great preventative.
Myo fascial(sp) massage-and reiki treatments are also wonderful ways to deal with the pain and to prevent migraines.
Mine are severe-I can't see, talk clearly or stand any bright lights, I often threw up for days with them and the pain was so severe I had to have a series of MRI's to determine if I was actually having strokes. I was on most magor meds for them and then met a massage therapist who did myo fascial work-I had a few treatments and started the feverfew capsules and instead of getting them every week I now get one once every few months-when I forget to take the feverfew or when life is horrible(i.e. death in the family.)

My headache is smack dab in the middle of my head right between my eyebrows

:p

i cant help you with this one probably, but in the future, the moment you feel a migraine coming on down some caffeine, a tylenol, and an aspirin (the ingredients for excedrin migraine). I can usually catch mine soon enough now that all i need is a can of mountain dew.

Your headaches sound like mine Earthgoddess....

:p

My doctor told me to take 3 Excedrin with a can of coke. So far, I'm having very little luck with it. They are reluctant to put me on anything at this time, due to some other issues. Feverfew seems to be working...haven't had a KILLER migraine in a while...

I know exactly what your going through Siren. The pain, OMG, it's awful to have to go throught that. I feel for anyone who has these this bad.

Mine are severe to, can't see, numbing of my face and arm and hand, can't stand the bright lights.

I have been to the Doctor about this since i have been 14, I have been on every medication known for this. I hate it.

I'm very interested in this Feverfew, please someone tell us where to get this.

Advice for the future!

I don't expect you to have any of this on hand for now, but this works great for me, and I have them pretty often.
The kind where you can't look at light, and even the slightest sound makes you feel like you head is gonna blow.
Well, Get some dried Feverfew leaves, from an herbalist and chew on just one leaf at a time.
You don't need to shallow it, and you probably shouldn't if your nauseated from the headache.
The taste is bitter, sort of like asprin, so try to keep in for about a minute, the longer the better. Spit, rinse and do it again.
By the third one I start getting relief.
It can be very helpful, if after you chew, you get all of the leaf bits under your tounge >
First, you don't have tasted buds there, so It won't be as unbearable.
Secondly, this enables the benificial constituants to enter the blood stream, within the same region of your body that the pain is in. And, that the delution of the constituents in your blood will be stronger where it is needed, the head, than if it were to enter through your stomach.

I hope that this can help you through your next attack.

Thanks for info on Fewerfew...but

:p

I will search for you!

I grow mine, dry it, and store it for the year in plastic bags. You could look in the phone book, for herbalists, or health food stores may even sell bulk herbs. If your interested I'll search for the adress of this mail order distibutor, I know of, but you should try the phonebook first, because you don't want to buy a lot the first time.

Siren- it is very bitter, both tea, if it is straight feverfew, and the chewing method.
I don't recommend you do either if it would make you vomit... which can worsen the headache due to pressure.
What you can do is pick an herb you do like, like peppermint or spearment, or even take a bag of your favorite tea blend and steep it with a bit of Feverfew leaves. I reccomend buying a metal steeper for loose herbs, much easier than straining,
Another steeping tip...
Do it in a coffee maker. Line with a filter, put in feverfew and the contents of your "coverup" tea of choice and brew, you can even double brew it for a stronger tea. Add lots of honey and your set.
But for anyone who can stand it, the chewing and tounge tucking method is the most effective. Good luck.

Yes, thank you so much Herballady.....

It sounds like something Wolfy would suggest after the tenth time up the stairs from me calling for something, hahahaha.

But really, why would this help?

Its a pressure point... only takes a minute to try it... *smile* - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's for real.

Thank you Siren for postig this thread.

muahhhhhhhhhh

patiently waiting for the addy.

Thank you,thank you,thank you

You are so very welcome my friend Roll One....

Are you sure it's a migraine and not a sinus headache?

I was treated for a couple of years for "migraines" that manefested as pain centered beteen the eyes and later discovered on my own that they responded if treated as sinus headaches with Actifed or similar product.

My daughter suffers from true migraines, and had to keep a "headache diary" before her doctor came up with a treatment that works. Essentially, she has learned to recognize the warning signs and take an extra strength Advil before the headache sets in.

There is also an accupressure point between the thumb and forefinger in the center of the webbing. Squeeze the pressure point an the pressure should drain away. It works best for stress headaches, but does work to some degree on migraines.

You poor thing....I get terrible migraines. I don't like to take the medicine they prescribe because it makes my heart race. I take 4 Advil and place an ice pack or one of those long square ice thingees on my forehead. That usually numbs the whole area. Sometimes I even place that square ice thingee on the back of my neck. It has helped me so much. Please try that and I think you will feel so much better. I just checked that ice thingee and it's called Nexcare Reusable Cold Pack. Bye. Hope you are well very soon.

I should have thought of this one myself... Same thing happened to me many years ago... what I thought was magraines turned out to be sinus headaches and, of course, all the pain killers did nothing... once I got on a decongestant though I was OK.

Good suggestion Dillinger and Harold....I will check that out....
