I'm wondering if it has its own browser, or if it only receives from different devices. I'm not worried about Netflix, but livestreams from wsop.com

I have one! You can cast anything that is being played/listened to on the chrome browser.

but does it have its own version of the chrome browser, or do I have to have a computer casting to it?

Have one. Found that for maximum reliability it's best to cast an mp4 rather than trying to stream, say, YouTube videos to it.

Are you limited to file type? I mean, can you stream mkv and other formats or does it have to be MP4?

Looks I need to upgrade my OS and get the chromecast. Thanks folks

I have a chromecast. Never had any problems playing any file type.
