Does any one have some medical knowledge?

When I can, in the next few days or so, I'm going to see my doctor about a problem that just manifested about two days ago. But, I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge before I go see the doctor. I know, these usually end up in the patient, me in this case, becoming more paranoid before getting the facts, but I'm still curious. My problem is occuring in the groin area, between the base of the scrotum and the inner thigh of my left leg. I was looking up hernias, and I'm not sure if it is one or not. I won't go into details unless someone thinks they can help. I don't want to dispense information others may not want. I also understand this is not a replacement for a medical exam, which I'm going to get. I'm just looking for as much information as possible. That's all.

If it's a lump on the thigh or the joint of the thigh and your perineum (the band of skin that runs from your anus to the base of your balls), it's probably not a hernia.

It sounds to me like a boil or an inflamed lymph node. Is it red and warm? Hurt when you press it? Hard or soft?

yep...sounds like your lymph node is enlarged. That usually happens when you're getting an infection of some sort, coming down with a bad cold, etc.

The area your describing is exactly right. It is in that joint grove area. It hurts to press on it. It is a harder lump that burns and it is a red tint where the skin is. I don't feel like I'm sick, cold wise that is. Is it something I should be worried about then? Is it something I should see the doctor about?

Yeah, it really sounds like a boil. The fact that it's red and warm shows that it's an infection, and the hardness shows it's localized.

A boil is basically a glorified zit - not really dangerousl, but you should see a doctor. If you don't, it'll bother you for days or weeks and get sorer and sorer and eventually come to a head and burst. That'll leave a crater-like open sore that'll ooze and can easily get infected, and then you will have trouble.

I had one on my ass like 30 years ago and because we were driving across country at the time, I never stopped to get it treated. It burst but didn't get infected, but I still have a scar there.

Good luck with it, but do see your doctor.

Well, you've calmed my fears of anything cancerous or more serious. At first it felt like a zit or an ingrown hair. I have to see an urologist anyway. Maybe I can just have them look at it for me. I would feel more comfortable that way. Thank you Zoot.

Hey, if you're going to a urologist, ask them for an oral exam.

No, seriously, I'm pretty sure it's a boil.

But just to give you something to think about at night, you might like to know that the Bubonic Plague first manifests itself as lumps in the groin and armpits :D, but you'd need to have a high fever too to qualify. When I came down with mono in high school (do kids still get mononucleosis?), my lymph glands swelled up in my groin and jaw, and I was convinced I had the Black Death. I was so excited!

Let me know what they say, okay?

I'll definately let you know. The visit is for an unrelated groin problem, ugh. There's no lumps in my armpits yet, and the fever has spread either. I'm so disappointed. :(

As for mono amongst teens, when I was in high shcool, my junior year, a friend of mine came down with a very bad case. Her whole skin complexion was green and she has so little energy she could barely get out of bed. She stayed home for a month straight because it was so bad. It wasn't my fault either! *shifty eyes*

Not being able to see it I am hesitant to give much advice. However from the little bit you described it does sound like a localised infection of some kind.

If it was not red or inflamed I would think it might be the Lymph Node.

Neither are that big of a worry if they are short term, but if it persists for a while then have it checked out.

I do know what you are going through though. I currently have a localised swelling, about the size of a Marble in the crease of my right hip. I think it is the Lymph Node, and it wouldn't surprise me if it is. (I have circulation damage to the lower right leg due to a major infection in my righ ankle several months ago.) It came up literaly overnight and is both hard and tender. (This happened last Monday night, Tuesday Morning.) It hasn't gotten bigger, nor has it shrunk. I will of course watch it, and if it hasn't gone down within two weeks then I will attempt to have t checked out.

Are you related to my wife by any chance?

Because of the way I heal I seem to be prone to ingrown hairs. My wife seems to love to tackle these. She seems to wait for and watch for them. Maybe she likes to torture me?
