Do you write better when horny?

I've only got one story published but three others on the go, but I find I write better stuff when my lower abdomen has been completely drained of seminal and associated fluids, than when I'm desperate to get my rocks off.

When I write when horny the believability factor goes out the window and I always feel I have to revise what I've done..

What do other writers find.........?

It really varies although personally I would say I do write best when I am horny as my imagination runs wild and I can really tap into my deepest sexiest desires...

I have to be a bit horny, otherwise the writing is too boring. As I write I get hornier and hornier until I have to fling my pen down and rush off to the bedroom

I find this with academic writing too ... it's the rush of the words :p

Ah yes, one of the burning questions facing erotic writers.

I know my concentration goes out the window when i try to write during a blowjob. My typing is worse than normal if I try to write while fucking. I can't read back with her sitting on my face. I'm already a three finger typist so masturbation is out of the question.

If you boil all that down, it seems that I'm either always horny or I write too much. Such is the life of a dirty old man.

I actually can't get in the mood to write when I'm NOT horny. Too many competing drives.. I've been working a lot of overtime lately, so when I'm not horny and writing, I'm cooking, shoving food in my mouth, spacing out with my feet up, or trying to reclaim lost hours of sleep.

So basically, I get in the mood to write, but then get some good stuff going, get hornier and hornier until I'm like.. I'll just check out some of the competition. End up browsing through other stories, getting off, and then I'm like, whelp, I'm up for a nap.

All of you other writers are actually responsible for me not getting further in my own stories, but don't let that stop you.

Nifty ideas get me going. I don't feel sex in my head, I feel it in my cock.

I have to be a bit turned on to at least write the actual sex scene. I think think the story overall improves if I am. What's that old quote? "No laughter tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader." Extrapolate.

Hmmm, no bullet in the writer, no bullet in the reader. If you say so.

If I aint got cancer, how can the reader relate!

A common critique of my writing is sometimes I take too long to 'get there'

I think the reason is I work myself up with my writing. I don't like wham bam sex, so when I get the characters into position so to speak I use some extra dialogue and non sex actions to build it for myself so by the time I start the race, I'm as worked up as I hope the reader is.

So I do write sex better horny, but have to get myself in that mood.

Horny distracts. I usually start to write in a cold clinical mindset, driven by an idea, not something throbbing. I know the writing is hot enough if its distracts me and I keep wanting to reread it. But once the words are working, and they really get to me, I have to stop because my focus is gone.

Write, orgasm, do something else. Repeat.

I love to write, so I know I've written a hot sex scene if it's so distracting I have to stop writing.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Other stimuli apply also. I follow the rule: write high, edit straight. Here, 'high' includes any biochemical alterations including horniness. And I do not keyboard one-handed.

We should add the question can you edit while horny? If a scene hits you so hard that even trying to fix it starts getting you going, do you continue on or do you have to stop and find a way to get back to it when it won't have that reaction?

Well, whether I was horny or not before I started, I'm always horny after I've been writing a while. I think I write better when horny. At least with regards to erotica. Never really tried it for more academic stuff.

I have to be mindnumbingly screaming-and-climbing-the-walls bored to get the ideas, but I find that fleshing them out is easier if (as with public speaking) if pretending that it's for an audience of one.

I'm always horny so I don't know the answer to your question. :D

Seriously, I do have to be in the mood to write but not too in the mood. And as for Editing, well, I can only do a little of that at a time because to edit I have to read and reading my story get's me going again and I can't edit when I'm panting.

For characters, story and plot development, no. I need a clear head for that.

For sex scenes, yes, absolutely. I find the vividness of the action I'm describing, as well the warmth and wetness of the terminology I use, tends to get a lot more sexually charged when I am aroused. In fact my favorite thing to do before penning the erotic parts is to watch/read about 10 minutes of porn or wank a bit. The more sex I write after that the more worked up I get, which in turn gets hardcoded into my prose. If I'm wiggling in my chair by the time my characters cum I feel like I might have a hit.

When editing for the final submission I like for my libido to be at a minimum for reviewing the erotica scenes, preferably after I have been freshly sexed or self-milked. If the sex I wrote cranks my drive back up I know I've done something right. The faster the better.

The old Ernest Hemingway quote is "Write drunk, edit sober".

The new Ernest Hummingvag quote is "Write horny, edit frigid"!

Yes, some of my best stuff, or at least best sex scenes were done when I'm somewhat horny.

I certainly don't write good sex or erotic parts when I've been recently "Slaked".

It depends on what you mean by "write." Almost all my stories are developed before I sit down to the keyboard. That development usually happens when I'm sexually aroused. All I do when I sit down and type is try to capture the story the way it developed in my head. If I get aroused as I'm typing the story, I know I'm on the right track. If I don't, I usually discard the story.

I don't think so. But maybe you can put that down to age. I have some 'interesting' thoughts while the libido tap is running warm, but actual writing tends to be better under the influence of coffee or wine. :)

Wine and horniness have to be separate. Gee, no one bothered to tell me that all this time.
