Do you work here?

I've been mistaken for a teacher or an officer or a shoplifter but never a worker.

I get asked that question all the time. Everywhere I go.

That used to happen to me when I wore dress shirts. Essentially, I think it has a lot to do with apparel. Dress shirts in department stores and businesses, polo shirts in hardware stores, etc. and Disney apparel at Disney World. That's when it happened to me.

Until I read this thread I hadn't thought about it in a long while. I used to get asked that All. The. Time.

It's been a long time since anyone asked me that. I don't know if it's me looking over reading glasses, or my eclectic sartorial choices but I haven't been asked that in forever.

Maybe it is the hats? I frequently get compliments on my hats but come to think of it most employees would probably hang those up when they got indoors.

I get that a lot too. Particularly in places like hardware stores or garden centers. Maybe because that's what I used to do for a living.

Heh. This still happens to me whenever I'm in a hardware store , garden center, or near/in a construction area.

I have a distinctive walk/strut. Often it appears as if I know exactly where I'm going and what I'm doing. As well as the ability to converse easily with strangers.

Perhaps these are qualities we all share in this thread, but take it for granted.

Also, I have 2 shirts that read "NO. I DON'T WORK HERE". Stenciled them myself.
