I've been thinking over this for a while now and it makes ALOT of sense.

I'm a tall, slim guy, I recently cut my hair to about 1/4th of an inch for the summer.
My usual turn-ons are guys shorter then me, with a bit of a tummy, nice arms and legs. I don't like the stereotypical calvinKlein-slim-muscle-body, nor do I like long hair, even longer then 1 inch gets me annoyed. You know, army-standard hair gets me going. A 30+ yo business-guy sort of style.

So, I've been noticing that in alot of gay couples I know and know of, both partners have very much the same style of hair, body build and so forth.
Now are gay people trying to change themselves into what they want? Do we try to look like our wet dreams?
I've noticed I like myself alot more with my short hair and I'm glad to put on some weight because I like to look more proportinal, even though I'm not anorexic or nothing, I'm of healthy weight. I visited an amusementpark recently and went to the hall of mirrors. One of the mirrors made me look more my taste concerning height/width proportions. I was almost turned on by the sight, and this amazed me. Was I looking at my target for myself, something I wanted to look like?
I've also started wearing clothes a bit more the style I like to see on a guy, clothes that are not usually that popular with young guys like me. Collared shirts, straight pants, and so on.
I even walk a bit slumped together, because I hate the way I look in a mirror when I stand up and I look so "unproportional" in my taste.
My case is a bit harder though, since I prefer guys older then me, and some features that turn me on only come with age.

Do you guys/girls do this? Do you dress/cut your hair/tone your body to look like what you want? Is this why alot of gay guys/girls look like their partners?

Ofcourse, this would probably not happen between heterosexual people in the same way, but crossdressing is very common, remeber that....

Hmmm I think I know what you mean. I am a good looking guy but I like pretty guys...like younger, tanned, in shape twink godlings (and I have my very own who I am committed to) but I am built, and definitely a man, not a boy if you know what I mean? When I first started going out, I made the mistake of thinking the kind of guys I liked would appreciate someone more like themselves. So I dressed in a way that I thought was sexy, made sure I was clean shaved, hair perfect etc...Kinda like muscular version of the guys I liked.

What I have since noticed is that the guys I like (including my boy) like guys about 10 years older (at least), like some growth, sexy but masculine clothes, (not glam or twinky).

Short of it is; I thought my twinks would want guys more like themselves, instead they want men. Good looking men, but not boys. So now I don't worry too much about the whole facial and manicure thing in some silly attempt to look 22. (I'm 34) It's kind of nice to know that I'm fine as I am. So no, I don’t try to emulate my type anymore. I'm not into guys who look like me anyway.

I could never look like the women I like so I haven't ever tried. I like small, curvy, bitchy women. Think Cathi O'Malley or Heather Carolin. I'm muscular and too tall at 5'6". Having said that, my wife of 6.5 years whom I love very much is 6'1" and slim.

Although, I love love love red hair, so I've been dyeing mine for many years. I suppose that could technically count.

I'm a straight guy who stumbled into this forum, but my preference is women who look like me. Not masculine, but same body type, skin color, hair color, etc. I try to dress myself to attract certain types of women as well.

Mmm... more and more, I find I don't just have one "type" but am attracted to women with a lot of different looks. So, if you're attracted to lots of different looks, it'd be hard to emulate them all... unless you changed your appearance a lot from one day to the next, as some people may do, but I don't.

So no, I mostly do my own thing with my appearance and don't really expect to find anyone who looks or dresses like me.

With that said, I like the way I look, and it may be narcissistic to say so, but I'd find myself attractive if I met me. Does that fit into what you're driving at?

Well, I'm attracted mostly to men, and I've devoted my life to looking like a woman. So... no. I do like the occasional woman, but they usually don't look like me.

I'm a bi sexual woman, but I know exactly what you mean. I first noticed this as a teen. I was only truly attracted to girls who looked like me, larger build, large breasted, very girly and confidently sexy. For myself I feel that it has more to do with vanity (I admit, I am vain) than molding myself into the person that I want to play with. I really like the way that I look, and if I could just clone myself it would be amazingly hot in my opinion. ;)

No, but sometimes I have found myself attracted to people who look like me in some way.

People used to mistake my high school best friend and my first love as my siblings, which they weren't.

Actually I first liked my first love because they reminded me of my best friend, their smell and skin felt very similiar. Thier taste in music was pretty much the same too.

Never thought of that before......But i guss you could call it a mutual attraction.....

So we say both "yes" and "no" on this then?

I think it all really depends on how far your "dream-date" if from your own appearance, but I'm definately seeing the fenomenon I described in myself.
I love it. Shopping is more of "what is hot" then "what looks good on me". But I think I end up looking good in the stuff I buy anyways.

Thanks for all the answers, now I know a bit more. :nana:

I think I used to try & look like what I'm attracted to! I'm not sure, but it was probably b/c I thought like would only attract like or something like that.

Now, I don't really have a specific look that I like in a girl besides that she has to have the cute look in my eyes. That's it really. The girl I currently like has shoulder-length short hair & dresses pretty sporty most of the time which is completely opposite from my look! or so I think! i.e. I'd never cut my hair short to look like her & would only dress sporty, when I'm exercising.
