Other than that $1 to the whatever it is? Is it still just a buck? I haven't done my own taxes in forever. :)

exactly pretty much, just give it away for whatever to anyone for anything without a real choice in the matter

That’s the beauty of the tax systems in G7 countries.

If you make enough money you can give some away to others instead of the gov, tax free.

like i dont want to pay my personal tax dollars to pay like a police misconduct judgment

the individual makes that choice when they cast their ballot in elections from the smallest town's bureaucracy right on up through state to the main event

no individual will want their taxes used to pay every single thing any one elected party will spend it on; some will want more child care, others would sooner see the money allocated to police; someone might think a new crossing is vital for their community where someone else thinks spending it on education would be a better use of that money.

it would be unworkable for people to be able to agree to, or withhold their agreement to, budget allocations beyond the ballot boxes. NOTHING would ever get done. If people strongly disagree with how their taxes are being spent, they can a) contact their representatives/authorities, b) bring attention to dissatisfactions via media or protests, and c) vote differently in upcoming elections.

In the UK when Labour wins an election it's invariably by telling their core vote ( public sector bludgers and benefit scroungers ) that they'll spaff money all over them by taxing everybody else.

Of course it never works out well...
  • The top 1% of earners in the UK contribute 30% of income tax but we're losing 1 millionaire every 45 minutes since Labour were elected. Leaving for more favourable climes.
  • They increased the rate of capital gains tax but receipts have gone down as investment is now going elsewhere.
  • They put VAT on private school fees but so many parents have been forced to take their children out of private schools and put them into state schools the treasury has made a nett loss.
  • They increased Employers National Insurance contributions which has killed recruitment stone dead.
  • ... plus more ...
It's a good job economists aren't very good at economics or else the UK's credit rating would already be junk.

The UK survived 14 years of corrupt and inept Tory rule.

Are you one of those Reform MAGA-wannabes? It’s weird that anyone supports Farage after his Brexit debacle.
What debacle was that then?

There's no doubt Reform's policies are preferable to me than the money spaffing insanity we've endured starting with John Major and every subsequent government.
