DO YOU REMEMBER...

I SAW HER STANDING THERE ~ The Beatles
(John Lennon-Paul McCartney)

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 !

Well, she was just 17,
You know what I mean,
And the way she looked was way beyond compare.
So how could I dance with another (ooh)
And I saw her standin' there.

Well she looked at me, and I, I could see
That before too long I'd fall in love with her.
She wouldn't dance with another (whooh)
And I saw her standin' there.

Well, my heart went "boom,"
When I crossed that room,
And I held her hand in mine...

Whoah, we danced through the night,
And we held each other tight,
And before too long I fell in love with her.
Now I'll never dance with another (whooh)
Since I saw her standing there

Well, my heart went "boom,"
When I crossed that room,
And I held her hand in mine...

Whoah, we danced through the night,
And we held each other tight,
And before too long I fell in love with her.
Now I'll never dance with another (whooh)
Since I saw her standing there

BEHIND THAT LOCKED DOOR ~ George Harrison
(George Harrison)

Why are you still crying?
Your pain is now through
Please forget those teardrops
Let me take them from you

The love you are blessed with
This world's waiting for
So let out your heart, please, please
From behind that locked door

It's time we start smiling
What else should we do?
With only this short time
I'm gonna be here with you

And the tales you have taught me
From the things that you saw
Makes me want out your heart, please, please
From behind that locked door

And if ever my love goes
If I'm rich or I'm poor
Please let out my heart, please, please
From behind that locked door

From behind that locked door

STATESBORO BLUES ~ Allman Brothers Band
(Will McTell)

Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low;
Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low.
You got no nerve baby, to turn Uncle John from your door.

I woke up this morning, I had them Statesboro Blues,
I woke up this morning, had them Statesboro Blues.
Well, I looked over in the corner, and Grandpa seemed to have them too.

Well my momma died and left me,
My poppa died and left me,
I ain't good looking baby,
But I'm somewhat sweet and kind.

I'm goin' to the country, baby do you wanna go?
But if you can't make it baby, your sister Lucille said she wanna go.
(and I sure will take her).

I love that woman, better than any woman I've ever seen;
Well, I love that woman, better than any woman I've ever seen.
Well, now, she treat me like a king, yeah, yeah, yeah,
And she look like a dog gone queen.

Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low.
Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low.
You got no nerve babe, to turn Uncle John from your door.

Great pic, Amber... Mmm yes, and I loved it when she crawled across the floor to him!

DYR~ family roadtrips in the summertime, Mom reading the map, Dad missing the exit and refusing to turn around... Hearing "How much longer till we get there?" until it it's driving them up the wall... playing the license plate game, and "My ship has come from China" with your siblings in the back seat... elbowing them in the ribs when they got on your nerves... and the sight of Stuckey's rushing by at 85 mph as the station wagon whizzes by...

Excellent thread! I'm still working on reading all of the posts, but in reading through, these are some of the things that started coming back to me:

Toys:
The Big Wheels (especially the one that had the lever you could pull, so that you could throw yourself into that really cool spin).
ShrinkyDinks - jays - I spent waaay too much allowance on those.
Sit N Spins - Lord, I'd make myself so dizzy on those.

TV:
Starsky and Hutch,
The original Dukes of Hazard (Bo Duke, anyone?)
The Love Boat, followed by Fantasy Island (the plane, the plane!)
The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday evenings.
Reruns of Batman with Adam West (and my cousins and I running around singing "nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah - Batmaaaan!)
The Gong Show

Commercial slogans:
It's not nice to mess with Mother Nature....
Ancient Chinese Secret...
Calgon, take me away!

Fashion:
Yo-Yo shoes (I was sooo mad at my mom, cause she thought I was too young for them)
Parachute pants
VANS
Ocean Pacific T shirts (before Walmart started selling them)
Gloria Vanderbilt jeans (all the cool kids wore them)

Misc:
The Farrah Fawcett red swimsuit poster. I remember my dad put one up in the bedroom and he and my mom going round and round about it.

Roller Rinks

Back at the beginning of the thread, someone was talking about roller skating and how the "in" thing used to be hanging out there. It's funny, b/c just last night, I was in a rink - for one of my son's scout functions. Lord, how the times have changed. There were more people on in-line stakes than the regular 4wheel set. Instead of the disco ball, it was all fog machines and laser lights.

Still as I was sitting there watching my kids, all the memories came flooding back. Thursday night was Ladies Night, so that's when my best friend and I would go. If you didn't have a boyfriend, anxiously awaiting couple's skate and hoping you didn't get left on the sidelines. The songs that would always pack the floor: Another One Bites the Dust and I Want Candy....

Lord, Lord - what memories....

With the high price of gas today,
You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped,
without asking, all for free, every time?
And you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot?

with the baseball season going on,
Remember a pack of baseball cards for 5 cents
and you got that terrible flat piece of gum to boot

and with this being LIT
Remember the day when the only thing
you could catch from the opposite sex was
omg! cooties!:)
