If you hop into a thread and there are a ton of pages, what do you do?

I feel almost obliged to read everything because I don't want to post an opinion that's already been said but at the same time, I don't want to read one thread for 20-30 minutes. Most times I end up not posting at all.

I seem to have to much time on my hands. Not only do I read all the posts but I have gone back and read a huge amount of the old threads. (then again if a thread is 200 posts long or longer I'll read the last couple of pages and if it seems to be at the point of friends keeping in contact with each other I skip it and don't post at all)

Usually I scan each post if I find something that is interesting I go back and read it throughly. If I have time I will read each post to see if I can learn a bit about the poster.

I look over the posts and usually find that anything I might add has been said.

So, like you, I don't usually post to a thread with a lot of posts.

I feel the same way, like i should read them all, but then practicality gets the better of me and i only end up reading a few.

Depends on how big the thread is, if it is a monster, I'll read the first few then jump to the last page to see if it is still on target.

Depends on how serious the thread is -- I never read anything other than the last post in "Something New and Different" but a erious thread, I at least scan everything to see if someone has already made my point.

ahh

thank god - i am new and read only the last few posts - otherwise i would not even be posting till next year and then would have 6 months to catch up again!

I only hate posting to this thread because everything I would have said, has already been said. :)

I'm pretty anal about reading all the posts on a thread, because I too hate repeating what others have said before me. Sometimes you end up looking like a copycat without an original thought in your head.

One exception to this that hasn't been covered yet, are the threads that are along the lines of 'your experience or memories' type of things. If those are very long, I might post after reading only a few pages.

If there's three or less pages, I usually read all the posts, or at least skim thru them.
If there are more than three pages, I tend to read the first page or two, and the last. Unless its on a topic that I am really interested in, then I'll try to read em all.

I think the if you are a new user, and you want to post a comment on a thread, you owe it to everyone to read the whole thread. You only have to do it once, then you are up to date.

You need to get a feel for what is going on so you don't come off as an idiot. A bad start at Lit. is often hard to overcome.

Besides what else have you got to do, you are here aren't you? Can't be that busy.
