I see multiple threads on the same topic every day. Do a search! People don't want to keep repeating themselves for the same question more than once a day.

Go to the bottom of the page, and type in a few key words in that little box on the right hand side. You'll most likely have a few threads pop up in a list. Check them out. Resurrect a thread.

Thank you.

If everyone just did searches pretty soon there wouldn't ever be a need to post comments. No doubt over the tenure of Literotica's existence just about every concievable scenario/situaiton has been thought up, and just about every odd and wonderful question has been asked. There will always be something original to likely come out every week or so, but for the most part this place would get rather dull and boring if you had to sift through 160 comments on one thread just to get what you were looking for. Better to just ask, and get a response. After all, every situation is unique, even if the question is the same.

Just my $.02 worth though.

Thaedes, I would agree with you on this for a few things. But it seems that at least every week some pops in with "How do I have anal sex?" This question has been answered hundreds of times. I know. I've composed full essays on this forum about it. I got tired of repeating myself, and now I tell people to search.

I agree with Vix. If you really want to know something, try searching first. Normally, those who truly offered sound advice responded quickly. The later responses are more typically playing off of what others have said. (Not always the case, however) If a person searches and ends with way more threads than anyone could possibly read, then ask here for more insight.

Most here are more than willing to help when and where they can. But everyone needs to be a little responsible as well.

Thaedes, I have to agree. (It was far better put than anything I would have written).
vixenshe... I guess part of the allure of lit is being able to ask questions to a wide variety of people about any topic. Different people do phrase their questions in different ways, seeking slightly different responces. Like take the 3sum thing, sometimes the thread goes well, some times it just flops.
One thought though is that being able to delete threads that you are just not interested in might be a nice facility...

Ok my tupence worth out of the way.

I have to agree with you on this also. One of the things I can't stand is we have a post on a subject and people turn it into a personal chat. If you want to say "hi" to someone, or ask "Where have you been?" do it in a PM to that person.

i hate to be wishy-washy here but i think that all of you have

some very valid points...

one of the things that i have found when i do a search is to make

sure that i am searching on one board at a time....

that way the results are not so overwhelming..

I can't seem to figure out how to search for stories, except by author.

The thread search works fine for me, but it doesn't go to the exact word--it only gives the thread. When there are sometimes hundreds of entries, it's extremely tediuous to read through endless small talk like "What are you doing, right now?...I'm having a piece of Pepperoni pizza and my dog just did the cutest thing..."

Besides, there's always someone around who likes to answer stupid questions. I answer a few questions myself--even questions like "Can I use 1040EZ and still itemize?"--God only knows why people ask questions like that on Literotica, but I don't care.

Literotica Story Search

The story search (link) on Literotica is based on keywords provided by the author, and so isn't really all that good.

The best way to search the full index of stories is to use Google. Type the following in the search field first:

site:www.literotica.com

and then your search terms.

As an example, using the Literotica story search on the word "prostate" returns only three stories. Google finds about fifty since it's searching every word in all stories. Neither method is gauranteed to find all, though.

As far as the forum goes, searches work but for one very common case: when it retuns a cluster of those pointless and childish threads with thousands of posts in it that no newbie is going to sit through and try to read but always winds up in results lists because - with five or fifty thousand posts - it's almost gauranteed to contain every word one could possibly search for. It's about as bad as the non-contributive chit-chat that starts up between the forum regulars. That's what PMs are for, you ninnies.

We can actually do a search here?!?!

Just kidding vix. ;)

I was trying to find my virginity I lost eons ago. Careful where you step folks! Careful!!;)

Well I am a newbie, asked two question got the same responds to do a search. Since then I have not asked any questions, but instead did a search. There is a least 3 thread for every question. All you got to do is search. People are a little bit nicer to you when they don’t have to answer something they have answered at least 100 times.

How to Search

For those of you who don't know how to search effectively:

1) Go to the Search Forums (you will find it in the Forum Jump on the bottom left of you screen)

2) Type in the word(s) you are searching for or the username of the member whose posts you want to read

3) Select how you want conduct the search, all of Lit or just the How To Forum, search titles or posts (if you search by posts, you will get more results)

4) Select how you want to view the search results (I chose as posts so that I don't have to read the pizza eating dog posts when I am looking for the toe jam posts)

5) Select what dates you want to include in your search (from today to 1 year ago)

6) Select in which order you want to view your posts (most recent to oldest or the other way round)

Hit the button that says Search

Go and get yourself something to drink and wade through the results. It can be time consuming depending on what you are searching for (anal sex for example) or, surprisingly short (toe jam only 3 entries - who knew?) Either way you won't have people riding your ass for asking the same question for the billionth time and you might learn something.

Ok now does anyone know how to jump back and forth from one forum or screen to another when you are typing a post and want to reference something without losing the Post Reply window and all the !@#!%$&*!! text that you have already typed in? I cut and paste if I remember but there must be a better way.

Thanks

I have often wondered the same thing.
Seeing the same threads over and over again makes me not want to post here.

But on the other hand, it does seem this is more of a newbie board with people just popping in to post a question and then leaving. Some people may not even realize there is more than one page to a thread. Let alone start using a search function.

There are two ways...

Go to the top of your browser.

Click file

Choose open new window.

Or if you prefer..

Right click on any link on the page and choose open new window.

Then you can go to any page you want.

I hope this helps.
