I do. and i'm looking to broaden my search. I have been looking in the San Francisco Chronicle since early 2002, and I occasionally receive interesting obits from family on Southern California who get the LA Times. I'm wondering if anyone has a local paper or knows of a big paper that prints obits. Here's what I'm looking for:

Interested in obituaries with photographs, women only, who's picture and story represents a past-time. the 1900s or earlier, the 10s, the 20s, the 30s, the 40s, and 50s are ok too, as long as all have a classic, old hollywood glamour but in every-day-woman form. writers, ww1, ww2, actresses, singers, titanic survivors, teachers, wives, any woman.

here are some pics from my collection. If you have any info you think might help, please post here, or PM me with the subject line "about obits". Thank you so much.

sincerely,
erica

See I told you you would get more info if you posted here
It's usually quiet (dead) here on the weekends but your thread will stay visible for a lot longer so you never know.

Let me check with my mother. She may have some obituaries of some of the women in my family. My grandmother was a very interesting woman-- a feminist before her time. I'll ask.

you were so right. thank you so much!!

when i was 9, my best friend was an elderly neighbor next door, she was my mom's bride's maid at her wedding to my step dad in '98. when she died, her daughter sent me her obituary that was printed in millville, CT with a photo of her printed from 1942. She was a hollywood starlit then, and raced cars in the 50s. i loved her for years, and she never shared this with me. she was such a kick ass lady. she inspired me to start collecting because i wanted to know, what other jewels there were who's lives and photographs told of a completely different era than today.

Interesting hobby, how did you get interested in it?

When I read your thread title I said to myself, is there any other kind of obit but original?

It is a very interesting hobby. If I see any I will clip them and PM you. It's such an original hobby too.

Washington Post Update

I have had great success of late, especially thanks to all who have contacted me about my hobby. I got somewhere today with the Washington Post! Online they show all the obituaries featured in the newspaper printed within the last 3 months or so. So, i've painstakingly gone through every single day of the news paper since October 23, 2006. Here are the ladies I've found. I have yet to determine how much a back-issue of the newspaper will cost, but i have narrowed down my selections from what seemed like dozens to 11 ladies, most from the 40s, just in case it's really expensive.

If you want to look them up by last name, go to washingtonpost.com, slide the curser over classifieds and click on Death Notices. Then search by last name. Here they are:

Murphy, Rosa Wells
Tashjian, Nina Clare
Haje, Alice Glendis
Teehan, Anna O'Neil
Walsh, Ruth Irene
Ruffner, Dorothy L.
Francis, Anne Cotton
Thompson, Mildred Louise
Shannon, Sally Van Deurs
Fristrom, Geraldine Ashour
Koehler, Zenovia Helen

no, they are not in alphabetical order, they are in order of date the obituary was published. Murphy from 11-7-06 all the way up to Koehler from 1-19-07.

update

the washington post charges an outrageous $10 per back issue. that just sucks. period. i was expecting at worst to pay $5 per issue. damn thing. but i'm looking online from now on, and i'll buy a paper if i see one i want to add to my collection.

Washington Post request

If anyone has a copy of yesterday's Washington Post dated February 1, 2007 with the Metro section intact, would you please let me know because there is an obituary I would really appreciate having.
