Do you change your opinions based upon who asks the questions?

Cat, you forgot something. The oldies flame him - so people who weren't here for what he did before have to do it too to fit in.

Let's use one of today's threads as an example...someone posted a thread about the two brothers in Florida getting a 2nd degree murder conviction...

Instead of speaking about the subject the responses have been to flame the poster (which, of course is perfectly understandable in this case).
I didn't. What's your point?

Well, obviously. When a person speaks, there is a context. For example if we take an average yayati post and sign it JuicyLips, then we would react much differently than if yayati had said it.

Oh I know.

I also agree with your point. If you had started the thread, with the same post, the people who posted in that thread would have been kissing your ass hardcore.

:D

Oh, sorry. I meant to answer your question and I didn't.

My opinion most certainly does not change based on who is posting.

However I can say that sometimes my answer may vary based on the poster who asks a question.

Not to mention my current mood. ;)

This is a pretty exteme case

KR1 vs Juicy Lips isnt a good example. How about DCL vs me for example. I am more of a clown than him. If I posted something that he might would YOU take me seriously?

My answer to a question never changes.

Though I must confess when *certain* people pose questions, I tend not to answer at all...........nor flame..............I figure if you don't feed it, it will go away!

*edited to simplify*

I will post a reply to a thread IF it is not one of the few people whom I will NOT reply to under almost any circumstances (i.e. KR, YoYo or REDRipple)..........I will not feed them, they will go away.

I've been loathe to get into political discussion here on Lit but I usually respond (on other boards) based on the way the question/comments are worded - not the poster. Some posters post using a style that makes it obvious that they aren't looking for true feedback on an idea. They've already decided what the "right" answer is and are just looking for an argument.

My opinions don't change so much as my tone. I might answer differently if the poster comprehends my sense of humor.

I might be more diplomatic when I disagree with my freinds, or maybe I'll avoid answering it.

I might be more clear & precise with a stranger, to avoid misunderstanding.

If I were inconsistent, I'm pretty sure Cheyenne would call me on it.

By the way Brat, I figure you're the about the only boardmember to get the best of Kidrock. Congratulations.:rose:

This is a good reply...

I just try to tone down how much I swear for different people ;)

I know about as much about you as I do about DCL. I'd take it the same.

So if juicylips posted a thread about desis, do you think we would actually look at it in a serious manner?
I don't know what desis is.

I don’t consider myself a political poster yet the few political posts I’ve started have always received polite attention.

Obviously, who is asking the question changes the response as different people have different motivations and histories. If I ask Angel if she likes giving blowjobs she’s going to give me a different response than if I was a newbie called HorniStud4U.

As there’s no way to truly know what another person is thinking people have to assume based on prejudices, history, what other’s have told them, and the way in which the other person is talking. Assumptions lead to reactions that lead to more reactions based on assumptions.

Another example, a course I signed up for was dropped due to lack of student interest. I decided to pick an intro to philosophy class instead, however, I had to wait for someone to return a textbook before I could buy one so I didn’t get it on time to do today’s reading.

I was not the only student that added late or said they didn’t have a textbook. Yet, after she came over and talked to both of us, the other girl leaned over and told me, “She hates me, I can already tell.” Well, that’s a self-defeating thought if ever there was one as well as one that she’d be able to easily ‘prove’ to herself in a class where the teacher routinely will allow students to create an argument only to pull it apart and tell them how their thought and/or conclusions are wrong.

If a student thinks a teacher hates them then they’ll take criticism personally, they might dislike the class and turn in poorer work which will get a lower grade, which will be used to ‘prove’ the teacher doesn’t like them.

I’ve noticed that some posters trigger faster than others, they’ll be quicker to take offence to other’s words. Then again, some posters don’t know how to control the tone of their posts and sound arrogant or condescending when that wasn’t their intention. Naturally, once you perceive a tone in someone’s post you apply it to most of their posts – that’s why we have people who constantly get into fights even when they don’t want one.

I think most people are fuzzy on what type of image they give off to whom, as well as to their own blinders.

I give my answer solely on the subject...however, my mood may change the answer from tears of compassion to string them up, and I truly am sincere when I say it. "Consitency is the hobgoblin of little minds" Love that quote...comes in handy for me!

Context

Every post has a context. Part of that context is our perception, part of that context is the poster (and part of the context is our perception of the poster), so of course my responses are changed based upon who I am responding to, unless I have no prior knowledge of that person. KR1, for example, seemed a little slimey to me, until I read the beware thread, and now he seems a lot slimey. Certainly, when I read something posted by him, I
1. Try to keep the slime off my hands.
2. Question his motives.
3. Probably don't post because I hope, now, that he will just go away.
4. Go wash my hands, just in case #1 failed.

True. And the fact that all we have are words & smilies here to get our point across - no facial expressions, no tone of voice, no body language - it's even easier for people to read things into posts that may or may not be there. I've had people tell me they thought I hated them when the opposite was the case. (For the record, I don't hate anyone here.)

I've flown off the handle a couple of times over misread posts. That sucks.

But to answer the question...I don't change my opinion based on the questioner, but I do change how I express it, or if I decide to express it at all.
