Do you agree or disagree?

I think I would have to agree, cause there are things I see in myself , that i see in others, that i know is not beneficial to them or myself

You mean because that trait exists in ourselves and we either fear it and/or deny it's existence?

Maybe; we all have some trace of various personality aspects inside somewhere. We all have some dishonesty, deciet, selfishness, meaness, etc. somewhere inside to one degree or another. So if we dislike those traits in others are we not disliking the same trait as we have ourselves.

But the question is do we dislike it because we dislike it in ourselves, or just because we dislike that trait period? It depends on the person, but I would assert that there are a lot of people for whom that is not true. I think the axiom is simplistic and invented by people who wanted a simple answer about the dynamics of human interaction.

I completely agree. The things I hate most in others are the things I consistently do myself that I don't like.

For instance, I hate:

hypocrasy
inconsistency
procrastination
over-intellectualism
arrogance
exaggeration
aggressiveness
hostility
condescension
anything that resembles weakness

I could go on, but we'd be here all day.

I try to fix those things about myself, but they sometimes elude me. However, knowing about them is half the battle.
