Do those of you who write stories still read them. When I first came to this site, I loved reading the stories. But for some reason, now that I've started writing my own I hardly ever read any of them. I honestly don't know why that is, only that it's true. Have others of you found the same thing?

Nope, I haven't run into that problem. I still read stories here when I have time to.

I still read. I just find that I am pickier about what I read. But that is mostly a matter of time. When I read, I want it to be worth the effort. That has nothing to do with erotic or nonerotic, that is all reading.

Yes, mcf, I find myself doing exactly the same thing. I'm not sure why. I think initially I glutted on the novelty of access to so many stories with so much sex; and now I've leveled out to some extent. The novelty has worn off, maybe? Also, my standards have risen.

Standards rise and morals fall. Seeking the story that offers release to the jaded palate. Needing more that just a hint of titilation to accomplish what was desired. Once once mere innuendo caused a certain breathlessness, now requires a more turgid offering....

Hey Yui...... :D

I am the same way. For me it's because I don't want to be influenced by something I've read.

That's true for some of us who don't write, too. All of it. Well put, Yui. :)

For me, absolutely fasle. I read all the time. I love to read, more so than write. If it weren't for the fantastic stories I've read here, and the great help from the authors, then I would not be as near a good a writer as I am today. I've learned so much from simply being in the presence of these great writers. Everytime I read a story I learn something new. A new way to describe, or a new grammer nuance...something. I love all the stories I read because they are all so well done. Admittedly though, I tend to stick to the AH authors, who appear to be the best ones. ;)

I have found myself reading more and more when I get stuck in my writing. I don't think of it as stealing, but seeing how someone before me tackled a problem I'm facing now helps. It's simply using my resources, and Lit has some of the best.

That's my opinion on the subject.

I read fewer stories than I used to, but I read more poetry.

Maybe it's my short attention span.

I don't have time to post, read AND write, so reading takes a fall. I read when I can sink my mind into it, or for a contest. I have slacked off there though.

Most writers read, yes.
Now, posters of Author's Hangout are a different story, they just suck each other off all day.

Well... personally I wouldn't mind being sucked off by a certain... *cough*cough*

Anyway...

I do not read on Literotica, unless there's an AH discussion about a particular story.

For the most part, once I moved into writing regularly I stopped reading sex stories... there was no point. Other people can't do it as well as I do... wet my whistle that is ;)

In other words, I write stuff in a form, structure and with content that is what I want to read... it's more productive for me to spend time writing if I want to read something sexual.

Sincerely,
ElSol

I still read, but I am more picky about what I will devote my time to reading. I'll splurge during a contest or if someone here has something out they want an opinion on, but i also do a lot of reading pre posting for folks and give opinoions and ideas, so my actual reading for pleasure has probably dropped off a bit over time.

Hey Yui...... :D

Will you come sit by me and just talk? You have such a gift for words and I think that Truth is right there if I will just listen to you closely enough.

Hi Fool. :D

Thank you, Min!

We're not really jaded. Are we? I'm sure The Fool was joking. Wasn't he? Huh? Huh? He was joking right??!!

;)

To be perfectly honest, I hate reading. There. I said it. And I am not ashamed.

There are few authors who can hold my interest well enough to keep me reading for mor than a dozen pages or so. And many of the popular authors like King and Coonts lose my interest in a few pages. Coonts has at least two metaphors in every paragragh and king just gets boring with the unnecessary details.

But give me good dialogue and believable characters and action and I'm hooked. Give me something to think about, and I mean really bake the noodle. Don't tie up all the loose ends. Leave me with something to think about when the story is done.

There are a few authors here that keep me glued to the page. I expect them to go far if they ever get the confidence to really try.

I read but less than before. I usually read the ones that have been recommended by fellow Authors.

Don't know about you, but for me he got it assbackwards. I've had my fill of turgid offerings. I gorged myself on them when I first got here and they don't do a damn thing for me anymore. Give me breathless innuendo, and do it right, and I'll follow you wherever the story goes.

I still read voraciously

I still read so I could improve myself. As english is not my mother tongue, I need to read alot more than anyone else. I read the good and the bad then I would compare with my own writing where should I improve or how I should not make the same mistakes as others that sort of thing.

Being non english speaking my vocabs are very limited and my syntax tends to be out of context because I would use my own language and direct translate to english, which to the true blue english writers/readers find it odd and weird to comprehend what I was trying to write.

So I read and read and read and read. Where else can you find free lessons but here? I got feedbacks saying I have idea on my story just that I need to brush up, which to me were good feedbacks.

Even if the story by my standard was dull, I would still read so I could improve :)

The stories written by the authors who post here are likely to be good ones to read to help you learn more about syntax, and I haven't read any of theirs that I thought were dull. ;)

Click on some of the story links in their signatures and check them out. The contest entries, like the current Earth Day contest, are also more likely to be well written.

Enjoy!

Have you read "Lustful Leeves"? ;)

Lustful Leeves is read aloud. ;) Hint Hint

I do still read the stories here on Lit. But as others have said, I'm much more choosey now about WHAT and WHOM I read.

I scan the 'new' lists at least once or twice a week, and dip into some in the categories that appeal to me. If a story grabs me I'll read it all, vote, pc, and if its not an author I've read before, check out their profile. If they have other stories in the same category I bookmark their page to come back to later.

If the story doesn't grab me, I hit the backbutton and move on.

Works by my fellow writers here in AH I will always try to read. Some more successfully than others, depending on content. We all have our own personal preferences.

I still read here, but almost exclusively authors I know or have met recently. On occassion I will look up someone on a "favorites" list if I have never read them...
I just have limited time available....
