I agree with the people who say its more than a porn board. "Erotica" is the key word.

Somehow I feel so much more at ease here, and more confident about exposing my sexual feelings and urges.

Because of the emphasis on writing, it seems to draw in people who have minds and opinions and intelligence, if you konw what i mean.

This isn't a porn board. This isn't an erotica board either. This isn't a sex board. We have those, namely the Sexual Role Playing Board and the Amateur Pic Feedback Board.

This is a community. We were brought together by a common interest in pornographic/erotic/smut stories and happened into this particular place. This is a place where we discuss everything from politics, war, and social ills to who is wearing green panties, what kind of fruit would we be, and fun flirting. This is a well-rounded community where people get together to talk about anything that pleases them.

We are all human beings. We all have good days when we're friendly and we all have bad days. Some of us are passive, most assertive, some aggressive; just like every other community in existence. Because we are a whole community of human beings, we will have things that aren't necessarily fun, that aren't very friendly, and that generally demonstrate the ugly side of human nature. This is, actually, a good thing. It gives the people who come here a place to be completely themselves.

You can be whomever you want here. Most of us figured out that the best person to be is yourself. One of the greatest, and rarest, qualities of this board is the fact that you do not have to censor yourself. Only three things are taboo: spam, posting another's private information, and physical threats. This is a freedom that no one has anywhere else in the planet. There is no where that you can say whatever you like without fear of retribution from the local constabulary.

To call this place a porn board is to cheapen the friendships that have developed here. If this were just a porn board, or even an erotic board, then there would be no lasting friendships, there would be no lives touched and changed. Why not? Because the only thing that would exist here would be sex and that is not something you can base a commitment of oneself on.

Every last one of us has made good, close friends here. We didn't do with cybersex. We didn't do it looking at pornographic pictures or erotica art. We didn't do it by discussing sexual issues. We did it by reading a wide variety of opinions by those friends, deciding we liked their posting style, and then we began a personal dialogue that deepened into friendship. People have moved to different countries because this board and the people in it made that possible. People have left abusive homes and moved across the country to have the basis of a successful start in life all because of this board.

When anyone refers to this place as a porn board, then they are denying the very friendships that surround this place. They are denying the strong and wonderful communications that exist here. They are denying the fact that people in this community touch each others' lives and make a real difference. To say this is a porn board denies the humanity in it.

People come here for solace when they hurt. They come here to vent when they are angry. They come here to flirt when they want to have fun. They come here to discuss issues that disturb them. They come here be with their friends. They come here to troll because they have an inadequacy within themselves to fill. No one comes here only for sex. People who start out that way quickly leave or come back for other reasons. Why? This is not a porn board.

I was in a knitting board site. No seriously I think we all realize it is a porn site. Speaking for myself I find it liberating that I can write what is on my mind without feeling like I am being censured. If I want to say FUCK, PUSSY, COCK, SUCK ME, TITS, ASS, MAKE ME CUM, ETC. I can. If I want to get into debates about sex I can. If I want to discuss view points on sex I can. Jeez I have a lot of sex on the brain.

No it is amazing we come here for one thing and we develop something completely different as times goes on. Friendships are developed and view points are shared. Again I do enjoy the freedom I have to express my sensuality.

This is what I have been talking about, I'm not trying to debate erotica versus porn. I also agree with KillerMuffin to a great extent, but I wasn't necessarily talking about the 'General Board' I was talking about Literotica as a whole. We come here to have fun but not necessarily to look at porn or to read porn. It may start out that way but very soon after it becomes secondary and the relationships and feelings that we share with one another once we are here is what keeps most of us coming back.

there is so much to this site. Again some lurk about curious to explore sexual fantasies. At first that is their sole purpose for that release. Then they realize that they begin to joke about and develop friendships.

Just last week a man I talk to expressed this theory. When he first signed on to lit chat he did not understand my response that I do not cyber anymore in there. His response like many newbies is then why do you come in here? I have been harassed with that since I opted to limit my cyber slut days in the past. My answer is my friends and the ability to write. Well, this week after he has been in chat for about a month he admitted that he to goes in their now to shoot the breeze. It is similiar to the TV show Cheers where everybody knows your name. A faimiliar place, etc.

The Bulletain Boards are similiar also. The responses are not instant but the communication is. So besides it being endless with things to explore it is a community. It is an adult site community that basically any topic goes as long as it is among adults.

And while I dig the fact that you said you weren't speaking solely about the general board, the truth of the matter is that the general board really isn't a porn board at all. I don't post to other parts of lit much and I don't respond much to the overtly sexual threads on the general board much.
