Do The Experienced and Gurus give feedback? Where? Did I miss a good review?

Do the experienced give feedback to the lowest peons (well, okay, I mean me)?

Do y'all really get bothered when the poet you've given your opinion to questions it or tries to give their reasoning for their method?

I am absolutely positive that I have not been listed in the "oooh, that was a really good poem and everyone else really should read it too" thread--I've been checking 'cuz I'm a real sucker for positive reinforcement--but juuussst in case I eeeeeveeeer become blessed with a loving statement from the poets, how would I know?

If you heard a tinge of paranoia, then I'm not screaming loudly enough. :)

While I don't keep track closely, I think just about all of the feedback is generated by the "experienced" and "gurus." I won't remember what I am until I post this and can see my name. Not guru.

I get very very bothered when a poet questions my opinions. I could and am extremely tempted to rant for a long time on the subject, however, it is not the point. Suffice to say the opinions in question cannot, by their nature, be wrong unless they are spiteful. Such questions are almost always a juvenile defense and accusations of spite are almost always wrong.

I think that reviewers are acquiring an extremely polite habit to mention in the public comments of a poem whether it has been reviewed, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Reviewed or not, in my experience the votes and views are usually about the same.

Why so paranoid, Gina?

Hey there. ;)

"oooh, that was a really good poem and everyone else really should read it too" thread is open to anyone to express their opinion of what they found to be good poetry of the day.

It is true that there is designated individuals who read a given days worth of poetry and they post mentions of what "they thought" and what others "might" enjoy too.

Either a post in Public Comments of your poem or an email will let you know if your poem has been mentioned in the New Poems Review thread by "regular-joe" poets who've volunteered their time on a specific day.

I have found that the regulars here DO really try to support the newcomers, I hope that you have felt welcomed. Remember we are just ordinary people with kids and jobs and sunshine to take care of, some of us are active on other sites, working on trying to get published etc etc so literotica is just one small part of our life, so we might inadvertantly miss someone. :(

For example, my son flooded the bathroom while I was typing this to you. [/blue]

It depends. I like to know the reason people do things they do, say it how they say it, etc. It is usually clear when a person is being defensive, or just wanting to clear thigns up. I have left comments, had explanations and went "ah-ha!" so that explains it! And I learn. It is all about learning something.

If you don't want the poet to respond to your comments, just say so :) and they will back off I am sure. I have not found this happening too much here, but I know it does other places.[/blue]

First, you are one of "the poets" too. :) Feel free to leave recommendations on that thread as well.

Many people are here for a long time, working on their writing, learning from others, before being mentioned by the main reviewer, who works for free to pick out a few select poems that they feel that they personally want to recommend or note.

As Neo said, anyone can leave comments on the New Poem thread. New poets are reviewed there all the time, I am sure you will get one up there too. If you are not getting reviewed, you might want to post a poem in a thread to get some help with working it through. Many people here have private workshops with friends. There is also the poetry construction site where you can post drafts for suggestions. It always helps to bounce ideas off of other writers.

While certainly not true in some cases, I have found that by leaving comments, you show people that you are interested in the back and forth interactions, and you will maybe get more comments on your poems. It is not tit for tat, I will comment you if you comment me, it is just a way of showing that you are interested in being an active part of the community.

There are some sites that require you comment to 2-3 poems for every poem you post. Here you can post 10 poems in one day and never make a single comment. I have left many comments on people's poems without hearing a single word back, so I have no idea if they want my comments or not, I am more likely to spend my time elsewhere. I have heard from people later "I don't really want comments" which is frustrating for others who have spent considerable time leaving them.

Putting out the message that you want comments like you did here also helps! Good idea! When people come in, it is impossible to know what they want until you ask. :)

There are a few people who are generous with their time and they leave comments almost every day. Some people cannot do this due to time constraints.

I am glad you spoke up, I just wanted to answer your questions in the way I best know. These are just my opinions, I don't represent the community as a whole, just one person, just like you :)

ps I like your passion posts :)

Hi
I just sent you about 4 or 5 emails on your poems. Some will make you smile and some are offering suggestions. By the way, The Poets finally got your email after about 20 days. We care. We really do. We're just slow and disorganized.

Please, please, please post your comments! I am hungry for them. I just started writing in the last year. I don't feel really worthy enough to call myself a poet. I do it reluctantly. Sometimes it just comes to me. I put it down, then see what sticks. I've had people read my stuff and tell me it was good. I'd like to stand it up against people who write and tell me the same.

Paranoid. I am that. I write down what I write and then I read it. I looks good to me. I mean the words are spelled correctly, the subject/verb agreements match most of the time, I've said what I thought I was trying to say when the seed of it was given to me. I have yet to become secure with my writing though and I want to be.

I know my basic style of writing isn't traditional, but I would still like to know that someone looks at my poem and says to themselves, "Yes. I get that. I felt that. I like it." I want them to see my words and get it, for the most part, after reading it the first time.

I do want feedback. I truly and honestly do. I may try to justify my reasoning of why I would not change what was advised (my 'I Screamed At Inhumanity' poem is an example giving a justification of why I did not do what some had suggested by shortening it or breaking it up in stanzas). I do take advice so I do welcome it.

Thanks for responding to this thread. I appreciate it.

Miss Annaswirls, I'm not sure what you meant by the passion poems. Could you elaborate for me? Please?

Anyone wanna give me some input on the poem below? (Sorry for being long-winded... Egad, I do get windy, don't I now...)

We all feel that way, Gina. Keep posting and keep listening to your heart, your instincts and those who comment with warmth and respect. You'll soon find yourself feeling much more confident.

Miss Oatlash, thanks for the confirmation.

Eve--may I call you Eve?--THANK YOU GOOGOGS AND BUNCHES FOR THE FEEDBACK! I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOUR RE-INTERPRETATION OF JANUARY MAN ON THE MOON! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!

I have taken your advice to heart. I am gonna send you an email about one of the poems you told me about. Thank you, though, from the bottom of my heart on your intelligent, tactful opinion. I'm going to work on what you said.

LOVE IT! LOVE IT! AND I LOVE IT TOO! chuckles I'm honestly mentally jumping up and down about that reinterpretation of 'January Man On the Moon'!
