Do running shoes last, like, forever?...

I'm a pretty big bloke and have some Nike Dart running shoes that are nearly a decade old, yet despite huge regular abuse in terms of galactic miles have shown hardly any evidence of wear and tear. Seems one cheapish pair of trainers are good for life...

Not if you actually run in them.

I run one marathon a year and obviously train for it. As well as circuit training and walking that's a lot of abuse from a man of 16 stone. Maybe they're just freak trainers?...

Maybe actual miles ran versus fictitious ones make a difference. Kind of like ducking actual women instead of bullshit stories.

I don't really know. The shoes outlasted me as they ran away, and I never saw them again.

I sometimes don't realize my running shoes are dead until I try on new running shoes.
Take your feet in to test drive a new pair and see if the old shoes still hold the same magic.

if you are a serious runner you wouldnt be asking such a dumn ass question.

In the late 1950s I bought two pairs of size 13 (US size 14) ex-Army boots for walking. At first they had a gross of hobnails on each sole.

They were made in 1944 but unused until I bought them. I replaced lost hobnails every year until the 1980s when I fitted them with rubber 'commando' soles. I retired them in the 1990s. They were still usable but I was no longer able to do the long cross country walks I needed them for.

I replaced them with a lighter modern pair that lasted only a couple of years.

Doing the maths I reckon they've done twice that.

Bullshit. When I was working in the shop I wore out a pair of boot soles once a year. I wore a pedometer for a week and found out I was walking 15 miles a day.

If you are doing any kind of running, or training those shoes would have been worn though long ago.

This is my experience, too. Running shoes die slowly and quietly. Your body has to absorb the shock the shoes are no longer able to. This is why you collect knee, hip and back problems that can resolve with new shoes.

If you are a big guy, this deterioration occurs even more quickly and the orthopedic taxes are even higher.

First you have to put the shoes on your feet, not just stick them on a shelf to admire them. Second, take the damn things out of the box.

I go through them every three months, so you are either light in the loafers or you actually run in completely different shoes.

You're forgetting the third "making shit up" option.

I have had pairs last a year and pairs lats for many years, I think it has a lot to do with how well they are made and how hard you are on them. Miles run, washes, what you run on etc.
