The question is whether the word can be appropriately used to signify the beautiful lovemaking that happens in these stories in Romance category. A simple yes or no would do.

My romances all have fucking in them and I don't think I've been penalized for it especially. Penalized for a little bit of a rough relationship at the start of one romance, though.

Ah thank you. This was really all I needed to hear.

Since a post here has to be at least five characters, a simple "yes" or "no" won't fly. So, yes, certainly.

You can fuck depending on the circumstances

Of course you can use the word “fuck” in a romantic story it just depends on how you use it. A loving couple do “fuck” but in a nicer, softer, caring way than two strangers meeting in a bar and having a one night stand. Consequently the two stories need to be written differently.

They do in mine and for the most part no one complains. I recall one comment saying they thought the sex being a bit hardcore with some dirty talk spoiled it, but that seemed to be minority

My take on it is that my stories had a slow burn and conflict, the desire was there, but they were holding back so once they gave in, then to me, the first sex would be more lusty than sweet and slow, they've been waiting for this moment.

My opinion anyway

Ask yourself if people fuck in real-life romantic relationships. Of course, they do, and there are plenty of real-life romantics who use that word.

That's not to say that it's for everyone, or that some readers of stories in the Romance category are not looking for stories with a gentler, "flowers and chocolates" approach to intimacy than one finds in some other categories.

Plus, you must always keep in mind the caveat that you cannot please everyone. I'm sure there are some readers out there who think, "People in romantic relationships don't fuck; they make love!" But there are many who don't think that way.

Personally, this post is politically offensive. What about a poll asking if there can be romance in sex stories? I mean, fuck.

Yes, there can be fucking in romance stories.

In my opinion, it depends more on the way one has developed the characters. — and to some degree the story arc. The words characters use are an important tool to show the reader who that character is. If the character / characters normally use the word (either verbally or in thought) then it'd be silly to not use whatever word is normal for them.

Yes, if the people are ones who would think or say 'fuck', then it's fine. My last story went in Romance and after a long buildup both leads said 'fuck' once, with the guy being embarrassed when using the phrase 'make love'. Readers liked it.

What is the difference between "Making Love" and "Fucking"?

Making love involves a nice bed, clean sheets, soft caresses, and so on and so forth.

Fucking involves the lady being banged against a wall from behind hard enough to crack the plaster.

Both are romantic in their own way.
