While watching I Monty Python Movie last Night "The Holy Grail" I pondered If americans would really appreciatte the Humor in it or is it too far removed from what they consider funny.

I remember that just after the Challenger Disaster in Australia there was a whole series of jokes about the accident,"What does NASA stand for" Need Another Seven Astronaughts yadda yadda yadda there were lots of them. An American comedian was being interviewed on a chat show and said that in America he would lynched if he did jokes like that.

So is Monty Python funny to American.

This American does!! Collectively, and individually, this troupe still "rocks" after all these years!:D

According to my husband, it is. He's one of those that finds ways to use MP quotes quite frequently. I can't say I share his views on this one, though. Holy Grail had some funny moments, Life of Brian was a sleeper for me and the Meaning of Life..I just didn't get at all. I guess I take my humor with an American slant.

I once saw Life of Brian at a UC Davis on campus film night and spent so much time translating the humour for my friends that I missed most of the movie. Once they understood it, they laughed hysterically. It just took a bit of effort.
Good thing I'm bilingual...I speak Australian AND American...

Python is the best. It takes a certain breed of American to truly appreciate the Life of Brian, the Flying Circus, and of course "The Holy Grail"

I would insert a witty line from any of the above, but it would not do the original works any justice.

Life of Brian is the best, but Python just rocks regardless. I am a Kiwi though . . .

Wise? Traipsing around stables at 3 in the morning doesn't seem very bloody wise to me!

I grew up watching the Flying Circus, so I'm more partial to the shows than to the movies.

I do have an annoying tendency to break into the Cheeseshop Sketch at unexpected (don't go there) moments.

Python, without a doubt, is one of the few troupes that I can point to that caused me severe pain in my sides from laughing so hard.

I miss the fuck out of them!

Me my gf one of her friends and her friends bf were walking around the mall once when we started quoting lines from the Holy Grail.

They were starting to get really pissed at us, even my gf who likes The Holy Grail, and they finaly said they would finish the shopping on their own.

A very sucessful plan indeed.

Americans love Python. Why wouldn't we?

It is universally funny shit.

I'm a lumberjack....

yes we americans find it highly amusing....but i am sure somethings may need a bit more explaination just because of the culture difference...not in any lack of intellegece...

"Ello Polly!!!"

Come witness the silliness inherent in the taunts

We gave at the office.
