IC: He slammed the door closed and shoved a table up against it, hoping it would hold.

Seconds later, he could hear the orcs beating on the door, trying to break it open. He fratically looked around for a way to escape.

There was a small window in the north wall, little more than an arrow slit. He ran to it and began squeezing his small frame through.

He heard the door splinter into thousands of pieces as he dropped from the window, and an axe clanged off the stone wall.

He dropped forty feet to the ground, rolling as he landed. Miraculously, he seemed to have escaped the keep unscathed.

He charged into the nearby woods, hoping to avoid the wrath of the orcs. He swung up into a tree and waited. He could already see orcs milling about, searching for him.

He reversed his cloak so that the green side was out, and drew it tight around him, trying to blend in with the foliage fo the tree. A moment later, an orc passed right under him, glaring every which way.

He listened until he couldn't hear it's footfalls any longer, and dropped to the gournd, almost on top of an orc he didnt see.

His heart jerked in his chest. For a moment, they were both too surprised to move. Then, in a single smooth, easy motion, the thief whipped off his cloak and threw it over the orc's head, andf immediately turned and ran.

He heard the orc roar behind him, and he doubled his effort. The rest of the horde would easily be on him any second now.

He ran harder than he ever had in his life. After a time, he had to stop to catch his breath. He doubled over, his heart pounding in his ears. "Close one!" He panted.

He caught his breath and continued at a more liesurely pace to the north. There was a dwarven village there. Maybe he would be able to find someone there who was interested in the spellbook he had 'found' in the orc's stonghold.

Banishment

Erin stood at the outskirt's of his village, the town people of the village facing away from him as the mayor of the village spoke to him. "Erin you are here by banished from Rockholm. If you ever decide to return you will be killed. Do you understand?" "No I dont!," Erin shouted at him, "this is nonsense. Just because I lived and every one else died you are banishing me? You have no idea how much it hurt's knowing all my fellow worker's, my friends dammit, died and there and I lived." "Erin leave now!" the mayor shoutad back. "You may not understand this but the village elder's see what happened as a bad omen and I will not go against them."

Taking a step closer to Erin he wispered," Erin I know this doesnt seem right but dammit, you are my best friend's son. I'm doing this for your safety as well as the village's well being. Please Erin do not make me have the guards kill you." The last bit finally sank in as Erin bowed his head. "Fine, I'll go but you know this is wrong. I hope you can live with your self because of it." "And I wish you a safe journey now go," he wispered to Erin before raising his voice again. "Erin leave, and hence forth you will be dead to us. Any who speak your name shall meet your fate as well. Rest in peace." Turning his back to Erin he walked back toward's the village.

Sighing deeply Erin turned and begain walking down the path out of town...

*Marius sat in the tavern of this merc town and sipped at his ale, quite bored. It seemed to be something he did more and more often as of late. He eyes wandered over the tavern's inhabitants and just like himself most of those in there were mercs lookin for some pay. This was the spot to be if you needed a contract but it sure wasn't doin too well to draw the clientelle. He heaved a long sigh and took another pull of his ale, resting his chin in the palm of his hand and looked about...yep, still bored.*

“Chug! Chug! Chug!” This was the chant that was flowing as freely as the spirits this night. The town’s brightest (and only) mage, Randolf, was doing some minor illusions for some of the children that were in attendance. Several of the locals were involved in the usual routines of drinking contests, knife throwing, and arm wrestling. Randolf noticed that the village elder was beating everybody in arm wrestling, where the loser has do “chug” down an entire mug of ale in a single go. Randolf figured that the elder probably couldn’t drink a whole lot before he got totally wasted, and this would not look very good. So just to be a smart ass (hey, if you’re going to be ass, may as well be a smart one), he went up and challenged the elder to an arm wrestling contest. Before going however he cast a minor cantrip that would make the elder’s hair constantly fall in his face. When Randolf began to arm wrestle the spell was working like a charm, and the elder’s hair went straight into his face and tickled his nose, which sent him into a sneezing fit. During the sneezing fit Randolf put all of his might into one good attempt and managed to get the elder’s arm down to win the match. This of course (by his own rules) forced the elder to take an entire ale in one go. Completely unprepared that one ale was enough to get the elder pretty sloshed. All the other gnomes in attendance were pointing and laughing which caused the elder to get rather angry.

“RANDOLF!!” the elder shouted “GET OUT!” Sort of bored with the nights events Randolf readily agreed and looked over to a couple of his friends confirming the next day’s plans, when the elder cut in.

“You’re not going to be here tomorrow, or ever again. You’re banished from the village. You embarrassed me in front of all these people, and that is something I will not tolerate. You must pack your things tonight and be gone by the morning.”

Randolf went home to pack his things. He was quite saddened about being expelled from his village, but he soon started looking at it as being one large adventure. He now looked forward to getting out of the village. Late in the evening, without stopping to say goodbye to anyone he slipped out of the village and starting going down the road to the great unknown.

OOC: Excellent start, keep it up.

IC: Eric continued his walk towards the village. Knowing dwarves, he was unlikely to find a wizard there, but since the trading season wasn't quite over, he might get lucky and run into one that was passing through.

As he walked, he idly wondered what orcs were doing so close to the borders of dwarven land. Often being outnumbered and having both inferior equipment and training, orcs tended to avoid dwarves like the plague.

Not that it mattered right now. He had escaped unhurt, so that was all that really mattered at the moment. And, of course, selling his loot.

Another hour's walk brought him to the edge of the settlement he had been headed for. He glanced up at the sky. It was the middle of the nigh, and though dwarves could funtion perfectly well in the dark, they tended to be diurnal.

He shrugged and starting looking for an inn to stay at for the night. He would find a buyer tomorrow.

Hmmmm....

Erin sat on a out cropping of rock's over looking his village. He had spent many long night's here wondering about many different thing's, from the meaning of life to how to get the soot out of his smok's. As he staired down at the village he could see the surrounding area with no problem. Noticing a bit of movement along the road leading to the village he sighed. Probally a dwarf that had been out wondering the wood's, he thought to himself.

Looking a bit closer to see if it was anyone he knew he realized it wasnt a dwarf at all. It looked like a human, but from where Erin was he couldnt be sure. Not wanting to risk his life anymore then he already was for being this close to the village, he watched as the man continued on his way into it.

Hmm must be a traveler looking for boarding for the night. I'll see if I cant catch him in the morning and find out if he mind's if I tag along with him. The orc's had been rather active as of late and traveling at night wasnt something Erin wanted to do. Laying down on the out cropping he staired up at the star's wondering what tomorrow would bring...

OOC: Sorry about takeing so long to get started, but things have been a little busy as of late, but I should be able to come back more ofton now.

IC:

After walking for a few days, Randolf was really starting to get bored. This wasen't the huge and wonderful adventure he thought it was going to be. So far all he's seen are trees, rocks, dirt, and more trees. He was starting to hope his fortune would change soon.

It would. After walking for a while he came to the edge of town. At the sight of the town his spirits soared, and he got a gleam in his eye. This is the first village he's ever seen (that wasen't his own that is). He heard of humans and other races before, but this is the first time he's actuially "seen" one. He starts into town wandering around almost aimlessley seemingly trying to take everything in at once.

OOC: Let's keep the CC thread up for OOC purposes. I've seen too many threads get bogged down with a lot of OOC stuff.

IC: Eric strode through the doors of the building that proclaimed itself the Rusty Tankard Inn by way of a large sign over the door. A few other people were in th ecommon room. Unfortunately, none of them appeared to be wizards.

He went to the counter and rented a room for the night. He went up to his room, undressed, and dropped into the bed. It was dwarf-sized, but after the night he'd had, he didn't really care.

He awoke in the morning to hear the fluttering of leathery wings. He sat up immediately, just in time to see small brown creature fly out the window.

Getting up, he looked around. Nothing seemed to be missing. He was about to drop back to sleep, when he noticed a folded up wax-sealed paper on the bedstand.

"...The hells?" he mumbled, breaking the seal and opening the letter.

I request your prescence by noon today. I can be found in a cave two miles north of town. I have a lucrative job offer for you.

I assure you that it is in you best interest to meet me.
-Cassidae

Eric shook his head and got dressed, then read the note again. "Okay. Okay, I'll bite." He thought out loud.

He headed downstairs and out the door. He noticed a man at a table near the door -he appeared to have passed out drinking-, had a note similar to his, though it was unopened. Perhaps they would be meeting later.

He glanced at the sun as he got outside. He still hade a few hours until noon. 'Might as well get breakfast.' he thought.

Waiting...

Erin awoke with a start. Did he just hear something. Slowly edgeing his hand over he grasped his axe. Jumping up, swinging his axe out in front of him he stared around. Hmm nothing. Maybe he had been hearing thing's. Glancing out over the horizen he watched as the sun begain to peek up over the nearby mountain's. Morning, great. Maybe now that guy will be leaving, he thought to himself. Gathering up his thing's he ate a few peices of his ration's and stared down at the town. Any time now, he thought to himself, anytime...

A moment later, Erin noticed an envelope next to him. Picking it up, he pulled out a letter.

I request your prescence by noon today. I have a lucrative job offer for you.

I assure you that it is in your best intrest to meet me.
-Cassidae

He folded up the letter and put it back in the envelope, considering his options.

*after wandering around the town aimlessly he came to a place that looked like it was the local pub. After going in he knew he was right. After pulling himself up onto a bar stool that was taller than he was, he ordered an ale and started to drink it, when he realized that it was a lot stronger than anything he's had before. He then decided to just sip on it and observe the rest of the people in the pub*

A few moments later, something darted across his line of vision, startling him and causing him to spill part of his drink down the front of his clothes.

Mumbling curses under his breath, he rubbed at the spot, hoping it wouldn't stain. He glanced around, then, seeing nobody was paying any attention to him, said a few short words under his breath. Passing his hand over the wet spots on his clothes, they shrank and disappeared. Being a sorcerer had a few benefits.

Once he looked up, he noticed an envelope on the bar addressed to him. Apparently, whatever that thing had been had dropped it. He set his drink down and read the letter.

'Interesting.' Randolph thought. 'I suppose I could use a job. I'll need money sooner or later.'

He put the letter back in the envelope and tucked it in his pocket, thinking about it.

as i walked along looking for a quest or something worthwhile to do with my life i come across a village.'well i may aswell go to the pub and see what is going on' i though to myself as i enterd the village and headed to the pub. as i walked in i noticed many ppl and things and felt the presence of a sorceror or wizard, someone who has the ability to cast.and decided that i may aswell try to find them with that i sat down next to a human qite a bit shorter than i was that seemed to be in a very thought ful sate and then he finally notices an envolope next to him.as he left i followed him and decided that he may be someone that i might like to travvel with and as he recived a second letter i walkedx in and decide to introduce myself.

"hi i am sorian, i am a wandering wizard," i said introducing myself.

Erin stared at the letter. Hmm that musta been the noise I headr earlier, someone leaving me this. Reading over the letter again he realized it didnt tell him where to met this Cassidae person. That name did sound familer to him though. He had heard of someone that lived north of town in a cave with that name. Thinking to himself that he might as well check on it he gathered up his belonging's and began heading north towards the mountains there....

"Greetings Sorian. The name's Randolf. Pleasure to meet you. So what brings you over to me, of all the people in this place?"

Eric Vanstraaten

Eric decided to find this Cassidae person and see what he was about. Having finished eating, he got up and started out of town. The note had said two miles north, in a cave. Keeping close to the mountains, he began walking.

A while later, he found his destination. The entrance was a ten foot hole in the side of the mountain, with a river running nearby.

As he approached, a number of green-skinned humanoids filed out of the cave and slid into the river. Eric was some distance away, but he could tell what they were. "Lizardmen." he said under his breath. They seemed not to notice him.

Apparently this was the place, since lizardmen generally lived in swamps. Whoever this Cassidae person was, he obviously commanded a good deal of respect.

Glancing around, he didn't see anyone else. He shrugged and went inside the cave.

After a short stretch, it widened into a large chamber, easily twenty feet on a side. A tall, thin man with a severe face and wearing black robes sat on a white throne made of some unidentifiable substance. He seemed to be engrossed in a mirror to his right.

"Excuse me. Might you be Cassidae?" Eric asked.

The man glanced at him. "Ah, so you received my letter. Yes, I am he."

"The letter mentioned a job offer?"

Cassidae nodded. "Yes. I sent copies of that letter to a number of people, they should arrive soon. If you would be so kind as to wait?"

"Of course."

"Good." The wizard motioned ot a curtain on one wall. "You may wait in that room."

Eric pulled back the curtain to reveal a well furnished room carved from the stone. He sat down in a chair and waited for the others to arrive.

Erin walked along the outskirt's of town, hidden in the tree line. Every thing he had heard about this Cassidae person in town had been bad but with no where else to go he might as well do something. As he walked he wondered about what he would do now, where would he live, how would he survive. Losing track of time he glanced up just in time to see a man walking into a cave. was that him? Erin thought to himself, was that Cassidae? Not knowing but wanting to find out he walked towards the cave entrance, a nearby river bubbling away on the rock's. Entering the cave he looked around, letting his eye's adjust to the light. Following the cave tunnel he finally came to a large room with a man setting on a white throne. This wasnt the man Erin had seen enter though.

" Are you the one they call Cassidae?" he asked stareing at the man.....

"Indeed." The stranger replied. "I have a job offer for you, but there should be a few more arriving soon. ou may wait in teh next room if you like. If not, please be on your way, as I am quite busy at the moment."

The thin man turned his attention back to the mirror.

What brings you to me, of all the people in this place" he said after intoducing himself. "i am looking for a companion someone to travel with for the time being and you seemed the only one that has enough intelligence to stay alive long in this world.and maybe if im not mistaken know a few of the magickal arts." i said explaining the reason i chose him out of all the other pitiful fools

i laid my staff against the wall and then layed my sword next to it

" I have been many place and have see many things but it get lonely out there wandering by yourself." i said giving a reason to my explanation.

"Well if it's a companion you're looking for, than I would say you have one for the time being. You are right about my abilities in magic. So where are we wandering off to? If you can't think of a place, I just recieved a letter that says something about a job offer. It does sound like it could be interesting. Do you know anything about this?"

*Proceeds to show Sorian the letter*

"Have you seen anything like these before? Do you think it's for real?"

Nodding Etin looked around. Noticing a door off to the side he walked over to it and went in. There in the room was the man Erin had seen come into the cave setting in a chair. "Hello there," Erin said, " My nam's Erin. It appears we may be working together." Walking over to the man Erin stuck out his hand to the human. "How do you do.".....

Sitting in the corner of the bar, under her cloak, Jalie noticed a pair of what might be wizards. Thinking to herself...

"they might be on the way to do something fun, they are worth keeping an eye on, maybe following."
