Dissent? What Dissent?

Log on to the Web site for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (at http://www.usccr.gov/ ) and you'll find the commission's analysis of the Florida elections. You know--the report that says black voters were disenfranchised by Florida election officials.

What you won't find, though, is the dissent released last month by the two non-Democrat members of the commission, Russell Redenbaugh and Abigail Thernstrom. As National Review notes, there is no mention of the dissent at all. It's as if the dissent was never written.

Flash back to last Friday. The commission convened for its monthly meeting. Vice Chairman Cruz Reynoso called the dissent a pack of lies--without actually refuting any of the specific claims Thernstrom and Redenbaugh made. He said the dissent is illegal because Yale researcher John Lott volunteered his time to help with a statistical analysis of the Florida ballots...and his free work violates the requirement that all work for the federal government be compensated. Then Reynoso demanded that the commission vote to deprive the dissent of official standing--in essence, to suppress it.

To her credit, chairman Mary Frances Berry (she who hoped Strom Thurmond would die soon) warned Reynoso of the danger of suppressing the dissent. But the commission went forward with Reynoso's motion anyway. Reynoso failed in his bid to suppress the dissent. The commission did succeed in passing a motion saying Redenbaugh and Thernstrom must meet with the commission's general counsel to determine the legality of their dissent.

This is how leftists hold on to power. They silence the dissenters. Every socialist government in the world does it. The press reports only what the government allows. In this country, the "free" press is so overpopulated with leftist sympathizers that they just ignore anyone who disagrees with the Democrats.

Just click here to read the dissent the commission and the media didn't want you to see. http://www.nationalreview.com/document/document062701.shtml
