Welcome! If you had anything...

...angry, disgusted, dismayed, doubtful, generous, garrulous, gracious, generally, happy, horrified, hopeful, honest, irritated, irrational, intelligent, inspired, jealous, joking, juvenile, languid, laconic, lucid, logical, lustful, lascivious, mean, moderate, malicious, magnificent, modest, nasty, nice, observant, open-minded, objectionable, positive, pessimistic, placid, peevish, painful, persuasive, pissy, questionable, querulous, random, sympathetic, sordid, sly, timid, terrible, troubled, thoughtful, unimaginable, vicious, vehement, venal, whimsical, wonderful, wry, or even wrong...

...to say to, about, or on behalf of the shadow of a boy or an off-topic tangent leading from one of his posts, you've come to the right place. He will attempt to engage in and reply to any discussion as his schedule permits.

Okay, here's a complaint for you.

Why wasn't this posted in the BDSM Cafe? http://www.amanita.net/images/smilies/look-away.gif
I had very good reasons, chiefly Annoying Ignorance and Unforgivable Lassitude.

I'd love to know your motivations for posting this thread. What self-esteem issues (positive or negative) caused you to start this?
Much like the notorious pure , the questions and ideas that interest or excite me regarding any given subject under discussion are likely to be regarded as boring or abtruse by most people, if not downright opaque. (Feel free to search out my posts and examine the frequency of reply if you find yourself doubting this.) Under those circumstances, it seems unfair to the thread's originator and everyone else when someone does take an interest. So my plan (formed halfway through my last substantive reply on the pregnancy thread) was to henceforth keep the body of my posts on-topic, mention my more esoteric interests, and provide a link to either the 'private' thread or a more substantive development of those idea already posted on that thread. It seemed like a good compromise between annoying everyone (Francisco at least twice, which I'm betting is bad) and forcing myself to keep my mouth shut.

So, boiling it down to self-esteem issues:
positive - “I-yam-a-jeenius.”
negative - I'm a dull, dull genius.

Okay, I guess I can see where you're going with this. But give yourself a little credit. You haven't even been here two weeks, you haven't posted 25 times yet. I'm sure you'll settle in and be more comfortable soon.

Ooooh! Does something magical happen at twenty-five? Help me... take me there, baby! :D [orientation noted and disregarded for effect.]

I'll likely be more comfortable soon, you're right. But based on my RL experience, and the knowledge that I have a keyboard and all the time I want to both formulate ideas - interesting or not - and indulge myself, there will probably always be 'something else' I just have to say, that would add two or three dense paragraphs to an otherwise topical and relevant post.

Welcome to the boards :)

The only things I can think to tell you are...

1. While Francisco is a respected regular member of our forum here, having annoyed him is not going to cause you any lasting harm... nor, in all actuality, any harm whatsoever.

2. I would suggest that you request for a moderator (either MissT or Catalina) to move your thread to the Cafe. This is only a suggestion, not a slam.

3. Don't be so sensitive - we are a big, squabbling group of people, and even those of us who consider each other friends occasionally get on one another's nerves or disagree about something. If you raise a valid point or add something relevant to a serious discussion at least some of the time, you will eventually fit in here.

4. If you insist on modeling yourself after Pure... forget about being on anyone's popularity list... keeping up with Pure is way too much effort for most of us.

Other than that... just have fun. Life doesn't mean anything if you don't IMO.

P.S. The magic numbers are 100 and 1000. At 100 you get to pick your AV. At 1000 you get to pick your own description.

What is this, disrespect towards me? I am now very annoyed at you, Niteshade, if I were you I would start hiding before I let go of the hold of my wrath.http://smile.smilies.nl/428.gif

The shadow of a boy, I am not annoyed at you nor have I been. I have a very strong way of expressing myself at times, I do sound more aggressive than I actually want to be. I am trying to put a smile on my face more often but my face is cracking up a bit, it is not used to so much exercise, I am one of those people that only frown a lot. You see in reality I am a very friendly, saintly kind of fellow. http://smile.smilies.nl/2151.gif

Actually I have enjoyed your posting so far and hold you in the highest esteem. I am looking forward to seeing more from you on the board and I am already warning you that if you say something that I do not approve of I will take out my bullwhip and will whip the skin off your back from across the ocean. http://smilies4you.de/content/liebe/b18.gif

See Niteshade, if you annoy me it can have lasting harm! 

Francisco. (PS also sometime being referred to as Rantisco or Fantastico)http://smilies4you.de/content/freundlich/a29.gif

TSOB-- hey I kinda like that--

Do keep in mind those popularity lists!

Would you care to state a theme(s) or topic(s) or is it just
about a hundred adjectives that might describe Francisco?

(If it is, I'd choose, for F, questionable, vehement, sordid, and sly.)

Ooooh, I kind of like that idea. I have no idea how I'd describe myself.

It's more a question of Francisco being the dominant male, in a non-BDSM male-competitive way. I was showing my belly with sad, sad rapidity.

I'll be away for the next week, but I've sent a message requesting transportation.

That was the dilemma that lead to the idea of the thread. There are days when I can't keep up with Pure. There are mornings when I can't keep up with myself. And there are probably even occasions when Pure leaves Pure in the dust.

Well actually I am'a laughing out right at this, in a good natured chortle. (oh my sides hurt)

There is no need "keep your mouth shut" if you have thoughts to share or offer. It is wise to keep in mind though, that while this site is based on the premise of free speech, that means that anything one says is wide open to response from others.

Welcome to the forums.
Enjoy and take from them what you will and certainly, never take them too seriously.

:)

Catalina is like Samantha in Bewitched, TSOB... she wiggles her nose... or something  and the thread is moved!

And am I the only one who feels vaguely like she is calling the shadow of a boy That Son Of a Bitch when she says TSOB?

Those bizarre tangents aside... I rather like you, TSOB. I enjoy your posts, and I don't think you're boring. Longwinded, maybe.. but hey, most of us wear that hat sometimes. :D

You've got webcam on us!!!! I am always telling Masterful one I wish it would work, but despite practicing my wiggling since childhood, nothing has happened yet. LOL

Now don't go confusing me with Pure...he will have a heart attack. I haven't as yet referred to Shadow as TSOB (ooops, now I have), but it does save typing that long, long, name. :)

Yes, he does add life to the board, and a good mind to stimulate discussion, which is always welcome IMO. He is very likeable. :)

I can only say that TSOB is one hell of a talented writer. TSOB posts are eloquently written, well versed and honest.

I enjoy reading posts which represent strong opinions without being insulting; I also enjoy seeing the spirit of a fighter in TSOB's posts.

If this is the shadow of a boy, there can only be amazement at what the boy was or is.

Francisco.

Ah, an' I wish I could respond to praise with the same grace with which it has been offered. A question of early conditioning, I supose. I'm still thinking about Francisco's last post in the ethics thread. It's been a while since I was given such sober pause. At the extreme, the idea of conditioning challanges the notion of decisive autonomy as being, at best, a neccessary lie rather than an existential home truth. Presented as it was in more experiential and moderate terms, it still raises the question of whether a conditioned (complex) behavior masks or supplants an underlying decision. I know that humans can be conditioned in the Pavlovian sense, and that they frequently condition themselves (that's what a 'habit' is); if you search for the "Aslan Syndrome" on the web, you should find an example of how this can lead to the false justification of actions. On the other hand, the much dreaded 'Brain Washing' of the fifties and the 'Re-education' of the seventies never resulted in the development of a conditioning technique that could alter a whole belief system. I'm mindful to look for resources on military psychology; I know that the U.S. army has developed a whole field revolving arround questions such as "how do we make sure a soldier will kill someone in cold blood?" and "how can we best restore the combat-effectiveness of a traumatized soldier?" So they have people with lots of hands-on and experimentally verified experience with radical conditioning.

Sunfox, you shouldn't say bad things like that about my mommy. That aside, I kind of like the idea that I have 'dual use' initials.

As for the origins of the name, Francisco's take on it hadn't yet occurred to me. There was a dream I had once where I could see, with my right eye only, the blurry shadow of a boy sort of 'looping' through a motion. And for some reason it was approximately me, even though I wasn't casting it or anything. This memory got resurrected when a teen in the local music scene referred to me as 'the shadow man'. Which led to the phrase, "a man is but the shadow of a boy," which I rather like. I'm not 100% sure someone else didn't say it first.

Teh military

Just a brief remark:

I was with a "training" Dominant for a period of time. He told me early on that he viewed training as "changing the way you think."

Later on, I was watching a television documentary concerning the military and one of the men interviewed said that the military's intent with new recruits was to "change how they think."

:)

It struck me as not so odd that the similarity was there.

It's because English reinforces our unconciously indoctrinated definitarchial norms Yat view specific singular qualifiers as somehow inherently superior to generic singular qualifiers; Y indefinite article is culturally presumed to be 'weaker' than Y definite article. To avoid Ys prejudicial linguistic trap, we can use Y little-known Spivakian article, 'Y' (pronounced as a stressed 'ee' as in 'beet' or 'neat'). In common usage, Ys leads intuitively to Y use of 'Ys' and 'Yat' (pronounced with a dipthong as in 'Yak').

Radical Spivakians frequently challenge Y usage as one Y upholds Y fundementally eurocentric dualism, and use only Y pure Spivakian article for all singular indicative tasks.

I wouldn't have any problem with this post except that you don't show any demonstration of being able to use Spivak pronouns correctly, so why are you attempting to modify them? They are a genuine set of pronouns established by Michael Spivak (as I'm sure you've read in the thread linked to in my sig) and don't need to be meddled with. (I'm not saying you can't use Spivak pronouns correctly, only that I haven't seen any evidence that you can or cannot.)

I guess it's kind of a touchy personal subject for me. Anyway, thanks for the PM. :)

Au contraire.. as somone who finds the company of her dog vastly preferable to the company of most humans, any dog reference from me is surely complimentary in the extreme. :D

But I cannot continue to admire you.. because I'm going to go watch my Catalina_Francisco webcam for a while. (DVDs soon on sale!)

See? I knew it would be annoying. Anyway, that's the sort of thing that I really shouldn't be posting in the original threads.

Hi TSOB,

Just a minor quibble:

Ah, an' I wish I could respond to praise with the same grace with which it has been offered. A question of early conditioning, I supose. I'm still thinking about Francisco's last post in the ethics thread. {continuing, total 245+ words}

How about some paragraphs of less than 240 words! Have a little mercy, and take account of screen readability. Suggest 60-80 word limit. Also a summary at the end, of your principal conclusions.

Content is great!
