I've noticed that a lot of people have pics in the left hand column of their thread postings. Hhow does one insert a pic?

Your question is common. In the future I suggest you look for a FAQ (like the one at the top right of your screen).
The answer to your question is: You place an avatar by first getting to a minimum of 100 posts, then you are given the ability to upload your own image to forum.literotica.com, after that you can select said uploaded image and have it under your name for all past, present, and future posts.
When I get to 100 posts, I might use a take off on this one: http://www.geocities.com/je404ucd/ad/cloud9.txt Or I might just spend the time to make an even more elaborate animated one...
