Radical progressives are trying to persuade Americans, especially young Americans, that socialism is the solution to America’s socioeconomic problems. They are banking on millennial ignorance of the repeated failures of socialism and the proven ability of free enterprise to produce opportunity and prosperity for the greatest number.

To camouflage their intent, progressives speak of “democratic” socialism. They promise a tranquil land of collective ownership and equal distribution. But in every case, for more than a century, the socialist “paradise” has turned out to be a centralized state administered by political elites.

For a realistic understanding of socialism, educators must first dismantle the most egregious myths about this pernicious system.

The myths about free market Capitalism.

1. No free markets exist anywhere, ever.

2. Capitalism....which one are w talking about? Most don't exist.

3. It's more like ..your free to work your ass off and still you won't have anything...that works great for the employer, business owner, owner of the Capitol....hence why you can't ever get anywhere...it's rigged(see #1).

I forget. Is the Daily Signal run by Glenn Beck or Falun Gong?

3. It's more like ..your free to work your ass off and still you won't have anything...that works great for the employer, business owner, owner of the Capitol....hence why you can't ever get anywhere...it's rigged(see #1).

You don't get anywhere. Don't speak for everyone else. Can we tweak it better? Sure. It's still infinitely better than socialism. The fact that you would make this post is very telling.

Free markets exist everywhere a G-man with a badge and a gun do not.

My war orphan not-white father got somewhere.

I got somewhere and now I am the employer and owner.

Lots of people kick ass. The system only gets rigged by the government, the only reason you don't ever get anywhere is because you suck with your money. It's not hard.

Heritage Foundation. Not much better. They're heavily into climate-change denial and voter-fraud claims. Anything they have to say about socialism must be measured against that fundamental dishonesty.

Nah...historical records are all that's needed.

Socialism sucks.....enjoy capitalism.

Questions:

If capitalism is the solution to the current socioeconomic problems why do we have problems in the first place?

Is there some place more capitalist than the United States? Are their citizens earning higher wages, paying lower taxes, and experiencing higher standards of living?

Why do socialist European countries have significantly higher standards of living, including health care, education, transportation, etc. than the U.S.?

Why do socialist European countries have significantly higher standards of living, including health care, education, transportation, etc. than the U.S.?

Because they have social democracy, as distinct from socialism, even from democratic socialism. Socialism requires, at minimum, the nationalization or in some form the socialization of some significant part of the means of production. Democratic socialism is one thing that has never yet been tried, unless you count Venezuela (yes, I am painfully aware of how dubious is that regime's claim to be democratic, or socialist).

Because government fuckery, control and manipulation of the economy is not capitalism. :)

Yes.
Yes.
No.
Yes.

Why do socialist European countries have significantly higher standards of living, including health care, education, transportation, etc. than the U.S.?

Because most of them are more capitalistic than the USA. Which is moving away from capitalism.

Public/civil services and infrastructure are not socialism, words mean things.

That distinction is practically non-existent.

One allows you to keep your own business name on the door, the other doesn't.

Nothing dubious about it.

As a national economic model Socialism just fails, even if you vote for it.....because "free lunches for all!!!" is a fantasy. Someone has to pay.

Who are these "radical progressives" and when did they try to persuade anyone of any of these myths? (Date/time/quote)

Socialism is just another right wing fear monger push. If the article were true, then they'd be providing quotes from these people pushing each myth.

Once you really start to see the benefit in what free markets offer, you also begin to see all of the thousands of little ways why we can't rightly say that we live in anything approximating a free market.

Taxes, subsidies, tariffs, regulations, government intervention, laws... The government interferes with the market from every conceivable angle.

Like I said, it gets a lot clearer if you believe that a truly free market is a positive thing. Then you are on the lookout for impediments and they are legion.

But, even if we did have a totally free market someday, I'm sure that there will be problems. The difference is that when these problems pop up, the market will probably handle them best.

YOU and the other democrats.

Just about every time you interact with others, notice how much the facts triggered you here.

Socialism is just another right wing fear monger push.

Just like the lefts fear mongering about whiteness, white privilege and white nationalism.

Nothing more than imaginary boogimen.

If the article were true, then they'd be providing quotes from these people pushing each myth.

Affirming the consequent fallacy.

Comrade is upset like a dog hit with facts hollering.

Meanwhile in demonstrable reality every where socialism has been tried it's turned the place that tried it into a total hell hole. Another fact sure to trigger das komradez in mass. :D

None of this addresses my comment.

Feel free to provide names and quotes that support the claim being made...else stfu.

I didn't bring up Socialism....just Capitalism and it's short comings.

Bingo!!!...the most pertinent question. And none of this is in support of an other economic system....it's called have a hard critical look at Capitalism, which I'm in favor of with conditions.

Hey. :)

California is as Capitalistic as any place in the country or world....and it is super expensive in many places as a result of the successes of Capitalism there. Just like NYC, if you can make it there you can make it anywhere...but not you, you failed at Capitalism.
